  1. A Real Deal SEAL

We all want to know what REALLY happened in Abbottabad the night the Navy SEALs took down Bin Laden. Now we can. Thanks to my friend Chuck whose book, SEAL Target Geronimo: The Inside Story on the Mission to Kill Osama Bin Laden, is officially released next Tuesday. If anyone can give you the straight scoop, it would definitely be Chuck. He, himself, was a leader of SEAL Team Six back in the day.  Read more >

  2. Requiem for Captain Jack

Go ahead and add it to my resume, along with "struggling novice winemaker": "Proprietor: Turtle Sanctuary". There is only one freshwater turtle native to California, the Western Pond Turtle.  Read more >

  3. Vintner on the Wagon

Every year since we’ve been making wine, I’ve been toying with this idea. With this year’s crazy, accelerated, compressed schedule, the life of a winemaker has finally driven me OFF drink.  Read more >

  4. Debate, Disagreement, Words and Blood Libel

I generally try to keep things light here at Left Coast Cowboyland. Wine, organic produce and terriers pretty much sums it up. But some things rile me so much I can't keep my fingers from the keyboard. Today's video from Sarah Palin is one such event.  Read more >

  5. Yma Sumac: Inca Princess Diva of Lounge

Everyone has their favorite summer tunes. Those songs that just say beach, barbecue and fun. But how many of you have summer songs that conjure up critter-filled jungles, exotic natives pounding drums and forbidden rites? You would if you had as much Yma Sumac on your iPod as I do! Yes, when days get warm and meat starts hitting the barbie out comes Yma Sumac. It's been that way since I was four. Because Yma Sumac is really an  Read more >

  6. The Unbearable Heaviness of Being Thirteen

Hosting two thirteen year olds for a weekend here at our vineyard in Sonoma (an impromptu experience we're calling Camp Two Terriers) has been, as I suspected it would be, a real learning experience. But as I didn't expect, it was me that did the learnin'. Granted, it's been...well... a few years since I was thirteen, but I thought I had a pretty good recollection of what it was like. Not a clue.  Read more >

  7. A BlogHer Experience of a Different Color

I usually try to keep things light in my blogging. Hilarious farming misadventures, terriers, and, of course, loads of coyote poo. I purposely try to restrain myself from getting too political.  Read more >

  8. A Second Look at the Man in the Mirror

So I was planning to resist this whole Michael Jackson sobfest. And here I am putting up my second MJ post in two days. I still have deeply ambivalent feelings about him. Sure, his songs played through my childhood and young adulthood, although I wasn't a super fan.  Read more >

  9. An Angel Goes to Heaven

Mine is not generally a current events blog. I reserve my snarky political commentary for Twitter. Which, I know, confuses people who have followed my recent steady stream of 140 character "roasts" of The Luv Guv Mark Sanford to my site.  Read more >

  10. MoMo, The Red Sox, My Dad and God

One thing I've learned from facing the slow, lingering death of a loved one is that no one can give you a roadmap for that journey. Even people who've been through it can only offer you limited advice because everyone faces death in their own way.  Read more >

About Me:
Call it a major mid-life crisis. We've never owned a house with a yard, we can barely keep houseplants alive, but we're going back to the land. Join us as we transition from San Francisco to a forty acre spread in Sonoma we call Two Terrier Vineyards. The grapes and olive trees are growing, an organic garden is in the works, and eventually there will be chickens, horses and goats. Can you say, "Green Acres"?
