  1. If Emily Posted: On TOS and Reading the Fine Print

on TOS and the fine print

A little over a week ago, an Instagram scare went viral. People were talking about new Terms of Service (TOS). People were outraged, others confused, some felt their trust violated. But here's the thing, the TOS hadn't changed.I knew because I had a copy of it from a piece I wrote in the beginning of March and was able to offer comparisons. What had changed? For the first time, people were reading what they'd agreed to all along.  Read more >

  2. It's A Wrap: 30 Rock And Other Awesome Shows That Went Out On Top

    via embedded video

I’m a huge fan of 30 Rock, but I was happy to hear it when they announced the series is wrapping up next season. I prefer the Ab Fab model to the Bonanza one - a series moving on while adoring fans still want more as opposed to becoming something we take for granted. It’s like reading a good book. We approach the end aware how many pages are left while appreciating what we’ve enjoyed so far.  Read more >

  3. Eternal Style: Vidal Sassoon (1928-2012)

I remember a story once told to me by a cousin of my grandfather's about her visit to Vidal Sassoon's London salon and the pixie cut that she left with. When she arrived back at the hotel, her husband said he hoped she'd never wear her hair any other way. Some fifty years later, it remains the same.  Read more >

  4. Asking for Likes and Other Forms of Self-Promotion

    Like

When I’m asked about self-promotion, if I think the way people reach out asking for likes, follows or +K’s are okay, my feelings are mixed. Self-promotion is a good thing, but we need to give if we want to receive. Most successful bloggers get to where they are there by a ton of hard work and commitment. That said, most bloggers do not have PR backgrounds.  Read more >

  5. United We Stand Against the War on Women

Los Angeles march against the War on Women

Last Saturday, in 54 cities around the United States, thousands of women, men and children gathered to say that the War on Women would not be won without a fight. Saturday was political, it was personal, and it was devoid of press. No mainstream media covered these events. At all. But we remain, tireless and filled with conviction.  Read more >

  6. Girls Talk: HBO Premieres "Girls" and "Veep"

    Courtesy of HBO

It’s been a busy couple weekends for HBO, with two Sunday premieres in a row: first, Girls and now, Veep. The first brought a bunch of new faces to TV, and the second, sitcom stars we know and love. Don’t have HBO? That’s OK. They’re sharing these pilots with everyone.  Read more >

  7. How to Teach Kids About Intellectual Property and Copyright

    Intellectual Property 101

I began writing about social media netiquette and ethics for blog readers and writers, but the more I saw kids (elementary through high school) using apps on their smartphones and iPads, and online on sites that I use, I realized that the conversation needed to expand. Like, yesterday. Curious, I began asking what they considered "online rules."  Read more >

  8. My Thoughts on Pinterest's New Terms

Once upon a time, I referred to my Pinterest conundrum as Bob. In the last week as people have asked me what I thought of the new Terms of Service going live April 6, I sat frustrated, looking at my new, play-by-the-rules pin boards beginning to take shape. What about Bob?  Read more >

  9. Spring Trends 2012: You Can Take the Girl Out Of The 80s But You Can't Take the 80s Out Of The Girl

I’m a child of the eighties. The eighties in Los Angeles. A Valley Girl through and through. So it makes perfect sense to me why women, myself included, are stacking bracelets and watches the way we do - it’s like jelly bracelets and Swatch watches and friendship bracelets all grown up. Like, totally.  Read more >

  10. All That Glitters: Oscar Fashion 2012

While Awards Season is filled with incredible fashion, stylists and designers generally wait until the big O before bringing out the best in their collections. This year, the Oscars celebrated the history of Hollywood with big wins for period films Hugo and The Artist, but we saw a mix of Old Hollywood and modern chic hit the red carpet.  Read more >
