  1. A Disgusted “Ewwwww” and “Gross” From Parents Kissing

What is it about our children, young or grown, that repulses them to see their parents openly expressing a moment of affection? They obviously know how they came to be! Mom and Dad were intimate! And yet they are immediately disgusted and shriek “ewwwww” and “gross” when they see their parents kissing. Do they not know how we felt when we discovered they were no longer “innocent” to the ways of the world, in regards to kissing, touching and procreation? I mean, let’s get real here. I kept my “ewwwwws” and “gross” to myself!!  Read more >

  2. Naturally Sedating that Menopausal Wailing Banshee

In these few passing months I have slowly but surely come to feel happy and blissful again, having found some freedom from that ever wailing Menopausal Banshee. The remedy: keeping busy—cooking to my heart’s content, unpacking boxes, re-arranging furniture—and lots of fresh air and sunshine. By Spending many quiet, quality hours in my garden, I have found comforting peace in Nature, amongst my fruit trees and thriving vegetables.  Read more >

  3. Facebook Just Hijacked My Computer’s Screen At Home!

I am very angry and very troubled right now. Today, Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 1:55 P.M., Pacific Time, while chatting with my daughter, using Yahoo’s Messenger, my computer’s screen was suddenly HIJACKED by an add using Facebook. The background was Facebook’s well known page, with an advertisement from Butterfinger in the center of the page. HOW DARE THEY DO THIS!!  Read more >

  4. Not N’awlins Andouille & Seafood Gumbo

Imagine a travel moment to Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, San Jose, California; now take a comfortable seat at our cozy table, and enjoy a scrumptious hearty sized bowl of spicy Gumbo. Take in the savory fragrance of perfectly balanced herbs and spices of old Cajun cuisine, and then delight your taste-buds with generous chunks of delicacies from the sea, with just enough spicy heat to tickle your tongue and throat.  Read more >

  5. My Father Begat Our Family’s Happy Bowling Obsession

My father, a long-time bowler—who for a short time toured in El Salvador, a “Gringo” bowling on the Salvadoreño team, that also bowled many years with his own parents here in America—encouraged my husband and I to bowl with the children as a family. My father was one to emulate in bowling. And then of course there were the likes of the PBA greats, like: Walter Ray Williams Jr. (also a champ at horse-shoe throwing), Pete Weber, Chris Barnes, Parker Bohn III, Earl Anthony, and Don Carter. Now those were all grand bowlers of our time!  Read more >

  6. Today I am because they are! HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ME!

Though I would never claim to be the best mom, I will certainly never say that I am the worst Mom either. So I will more than gladly wish ME a very Happy Mother’s Day! And why not wish ME happiness on a day I have worked so hard to feel worthy of? I love my children, and they love me. They are the reason why I can now proudly join the ranks of good, hardworking and loving, selfless and sacrificial moms of the world.  Read more >

  7. Jealousy, thy Name is Mistress, and Three’s a Crowd

Jealousy wrecks destruction on a would-be lasting relationship, playing havoc on emotions and, most importantly, breaking valued trust. Jealousy hasn’t a heart or soul; it is destructive because it knows no boundaries. Jealousy is repulsive; it is crafty and unreasonable, a foolish game player to an ugly end. Jealousy is selfish; it lacks respect and selfless love. Jealousy is fruitless, and in the end it will leave you bitter and alone. Jealousy is not unlike having a mistress on the side; while living as three, ultimately, it will feel uncomfortably crowded, and someone must flee!  Read more >

  8. My Whimsical Garden Is Flourishing Green

What a delight it is to care for my garden, whimsical and flourishing green. Though in the brilliant heat of the sun I stand and squat and kneel and reach, happiest I am when I water and weed. Here, within my whimsical, green garden, I feel that much closer to God’s heart; for here I have found my oasis, long-overdue rest for my tired and parched spirit. Amidst my flourishing green garden, I see the beauty of God’s artistry, and I answer to His call to rest. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.  Read more >

  9. My everyday nemesis is my alter ego, that forever Wailing Banshee! Most often I am under her spell, more like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!  Read more >

  10. The Monkey on Our Back and Thorn in Our Side

    Storage Unit

Many years have been leading up to this very moment, and my excitement has been more than I could stand. Our large rental storage space that has been housing our valuable junk and worldly possessions for more than 13 years—far too long, and roughly fifty-thousand dollars just flushed down the toilet since—is finally empty! With space to spare, here on the new property we’ve recently moved to, we have been able to alleviate a 13-year burden, the monkey on our back and thorn in our side have been removed.  Read more >

About Me:

I am a Home-Reared Chef. I don't have a degree from a culinary school, but I have earned my title through years of experience. I am a Foodie! With my husband at my side, I have been creating recipes and cooking all of my 30 married years. I have other passions in my life as well: my children and grandchildren, and exercising, like lifting weights, step-aerobics and street-hiking. I am very passionate about all these things.

I also love to write, though I am not a writer by profession. And that is why I am thrilled to have found a home with BlogHer. Here I can write and share my stories and my recipes. Writing is therapeutic, after all

I am also San Jose Food Examiner and San Jose Home Fitness Examiner:
