Friday Five: Christmas favorites

There are a few movies that mean that Christmas is here.  I am a purist when it comes to holiday movies and music.  Not a single note of music is played or a minute of a movie watched until the turkey leftovers are safely nestled away in the fridge.  But as soon as that happens, you bet I am playing the Mariah Carey Christmas CD and setting my DVR to record the 25 Days of Christmas.  Here are a few movies that help me get inspired to wear red and green!...more

Weekend prep means an easy (easier) Monday

Happy Monday!  I really wish that I had an extra day to finish everything that ended up on my to do list over the weekend.  We got most of the cooking done but anything that fell outside of the kitchen most likely did not happen.  We will be hopefully getting those things done over the week and early Saturday! So what did we get done…First, we brewed batch 4 of beer this weekend.  It’s a English Style Brown and we added some extra chocolaty grains as well as some of the spices you would find in a pumpkin pie recipe.  ...more

Monday Suds: Twisted Pine

Happy Monday! We had a particularly good weekend enjoying the beer that the Front Range has to offer. Best stop of the weekend was made on Saturday when we stopped by Twisted Pine. This place has been in Boulder since 1995 and they are currently expanding into some new space. Read more here...more

Getting ready for our trip!

Generally packing is not a huge deal for us. Christmas gifts definitely add an extra hurdle but nothing we haven’t done before. This time around, we are bringing Maggie! And as exciting as the prospect of having Maggie with us for Christmas and with the family it is just as terrifying trying to find the right travel bag. When she was a puppy, we bought the medium Sherpa travel bag....more

What was I thinking?

So this weekend I attempted the impossible.  I made Meringue cookies.  And not just any Meringue cookies but the ones on the cover of this month’s Bon Appetit Magazine.  I know you were expecting running a marathon or jumping out of a plane or even winning the lottery but Meringue was tough enough.  I had to make cookies for work today.  After a failed attempt, a soda, and some junk TV, I made attempt two.  And this time it worked! ...more

An epiphany of sorts

Everyone seems to be having epiphanies about their blogs and why they write as we have now reached the half-way point of November and NaBloPoMo.  I have definitely found a rhythm to my writing schedule but I haven’t yet found my voice (or my niche).  I definitely have blogs that I read every day and wish that I could be like but I know that I need to do my own thing.    I am starting to know what I am not.  I am not a full time food blogger.  I love to share my experiences with food but I don’t always do the cooking so explaining the recipes can...more

Hello Wednesday!

20 kids? Really?

I have a ritual of watching the Today Show every morning.  I've watched since I was a kid and it is just routine. Part of the Today Show madness includes the Duggar Family announcements.  If you are not familiar with the Duggar's, they are the gigantic family of 19 Kids and Counting on TLC.  They have 19 kids currently, 1 daughter in law, and 2 grandchildren.  I was certain that when the Today Show did their teaser about the Duggar's, they would be announcing the engagement of one of their oldest daughters.  They have several children that are well out of ho...more

This application seems daunting...

After a very busy weekend, the drive in allowed for some time to ponder what needs to get done this week.  I will be home on Wednesday so prepping and painting is on the list for sure.  We will prep Tuesday night so that I can paint on Wednesday.  Here's to hoping it goes well! The other major "to-do" is my grad school application.  I need to sit down and start working on my personal statement letter.  I am not sure what to write but I'm sure that it will come to me.  The other part of the applicatio...more
