Pinned: Pasta e fagioli recipe

Bacon.Do you really need to know anything else?I have a strong love for all-foods-Italian, so when I saw this recipe on Food52, I knew I wanted to make it.And bacon, y'all. This turned out delicioso. I'm not sure if that's a real word, or if Rachel Ray made it up, but I'm appropriating it for my use in this post. Because I'm not sure there's another word to describe the pasta e fagioli....more

Pinned: Red Wine Olive Risotto

I'm a huge fan of cooking shows (particularly cooking reality shows like Top Chef and Next Iron Chef -- I must admit, I was Team Falkner, but I'm fairly happy with Geoffrey Zakarian winning). If there's one thing I've learned from watching them, it's that risotto is scary and impossible to get right....more

No, Noah, There's Not a Santa Claus

In the 1890s, a little girl named Virginia wrote a letter to the editor of the New York Sun, saying that her friends told her Santa Claus didn’t exist, seeking reassurance from the newspaper because her daddy told her that if it was in the Sun, then it was true. But I don’t think this is true. I sure hope not since we plan on telling Noah from the beginning that Santa is not real....more

The baby sleep stuff that worked for us

I may write more about this sometime, but I've just been thinking lately about how fortunate we are to have a baby who sleeps so incredibly well.Noah typically sleeps from about 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. every night. Every once in a while he'll wake in the middle of the night, but it's pretty rare. He's fantastic sleeper, and he has been probably since he was about 8 weeks old....more

Career tips from a workin' mama

All things being perfect, equal-opportunity workplaces would really be equal opportunity, regardless of race or gender. But the world's not a perfect place.I had an opportunity today to speak on a public relations panel to a group of students in a class that I was in myself about eight years ago, and it started me thinking how much I really love my job as a communication specialist in media relations at the very university and in the very college where I received my undergraduate degree....more

And that's why you shouldn't buy LivingSocial deals on your phone. While driving.

The other morning I logged into my LivingSocial account to check whether I could load a Whole Foods voucher I previously purchased to my phone to use in the store. I'm not one of those folks who logs into LS daily because the temptation to buy deals for stuff I don't really need -- because it's such a GOOD DEAL -- would be too great....more
