    I've wanted to do a post like this for eons. Elsewhere, when the end of the school year was upon us, I'd post a friendly reminder of the dos and don'ts of job seeking. Other managers would chime in with more advice and it turned out to be a good resource for that little bit of the Net.     I lost my job today. The writing was on the wall. It's a commission job and the customers were few and far between. The other department would get five walk ins to my side's one. If you were the person "Up" and waiting for the next customer to walk in and wander right as they entered the door, you'd be waiting a while. A half hour, hour, maybe even an hour and a half.     Today, I was given a link to conservative talk show host Michael Savage's recent broadcast about Autism and what he called it's over diagnosis. Less than twenty seconds in and Mr. Savage's ignorance has me seething. Mr. Savage, I appreciate anyone who wants to do something to further the cause of autism research and understanding. You sir, have done neither. I have a piece of advice for you: stick to what you know before running off your mouth.  Read more >

    As tomorrow is Chef Jr's birthday, I'm pushing up the Soundtrack Sunday post. There is still alliteration in the title, it's just Suzanne's Soundtrack Saturday. Think of it as an early birthday gift. This week, a chance listen to "One Thing Leads to Another" by the Fixx brought about the erroneous statement from someone that that song was their first hit.   8. Searching

    Whenever we move, things aren't unpacked fast enough for my liking.  For weeks/months/years, we're always looking for stuff.  "Honey, where's my beard trimmer?"  (dunno, one of the boxes that says 'bathroom' maybe?), "Where's the thermometer/motrin?"  (again, a box that says bathroom?)  "Where's the coffee pot?"  (that I found pretty quickly. The search goes on to things outside the house.  A new city means we have to find:A new butcher (the old one is by Chef's cooking school, but isn't convenient on a daily basis)  Read more >

  9. The Moving Diaries

    The past three days have been a flurry of activity. Twelve to sixteen hours each day of packing, loading a truck or the van, driving a half hour, only to unload and come back to do some more. (I totally am going to rock the Awesome Activity hours for this week and next, because dude, I have over 30 hours of moving activity this week!) I got some furniture movers from Home Depot and I will say that it was forty dollars well spent. We were able to move the armoires out of the house with a minimum of smooshed fingers and bruised body parts-unlike moving them into the house.  Read more >

  10. What would YOU do?

    Here's the scenario: We moved from one county to another. As a result, the spring break schedules are different, with the new county going a week before the one we just moved from. The Boy Scout troop that Gameboy just moved up into is planning a 4 1/2 day camping trip to coincide with their county's spring break. It's a good idea for him to attend this one, as it'd give us a good idea whether he can survive a week at Boy Scout sleep away summer camp. This is something he wants and we'd love to allow him.  Read more >
