  1. #Hashtags Part 1: Twitter and Facebook

If you are new to social media, or just not one to become obsessed with all the tips, tricks, and interworkings of getting noticed on the web, you may be wondering what all these #hashtags are that are floating around.  Read more >

  2. Eight Hopes and Dreams for Two Kids

It occurred to me around Mother's Day that I have never really sat down and thought about my hopes and dreams for my kids. Of course, I want the obvious things that we all want for our kids - health, happiness, etc, but I've never participated in any deeper reflection, because, frankly, in general, it's just not what I do. But I am making an effort to more fully enjoy life and appreciate all that I have, which I think requires reflection, so here we go.  Read more >

  3. Gotta Have that Funk?

I'm in a funk.  When did this happen? When I took a vacation. And didn't work,    or blog, or be on the computer at all, really. Which is wonderful, but  I got out of a groove, and into a funk, and not of the George Clinton  variety. And now I have all of these things to say, but I don't know   how to say them because I have funk-brain.  Read more >

  5. Riding the Wave of Birth and Life

Like every first time pregnant woman does now, I had a birth plan when I was preparing to have my son. It wasn’t a strict we must do it all this way or I will freak in the delivery room and have birth regrets for the rest of my life kind of plan. It was just kind of a guideline. That we never referred to.  Read more >

  6. Miss Bimbo: Here's Your Throat Punch

I’m in awe of how far we stoop as girls, as women, and as people in general for a little attention. I mean, could we set the bar any lower for our children? This website, called Miss Bimbo, in my opinion, is one of the lowest of the low.  Read more >

  7. Wal-Mart, Awkward Moments, and The Easter Bunny

So this awkward moment happened the other day.I was at WalMart getting Easter basket fixins’. I know. WalMart. But I’m on a budget so don’t judge. So I get in line with my candy and Crayola and books and reusable/recyclable paper basket grass, and the young woman initiated a conversation. A conversation she decided to have over the screams of my baby who wants everything she sees. Candy! Dora! Book!  Read more >

  8. Grocery Shopping: It's Kind of a Drag

I don’t know how people with more than a couple of kids are buying groceries these days. Has anyone else noticed the prices creeping up and up? In the last couple of weeks most of my old standbys have almost doubled in price. It’s making grocery shopping kind of a drag.  Read more >

  10. Breastfeeding: It’s Emotionally Complicated

    breastfeeding

I did not think that I would be nursing my daughter until she was almost two. It’s not that I have anything against it. It’s just that I was not raised in a breastfeeding family. And there were a lot of babies in my family. When I had my son I was not totally committed to breastfeeding him. I knew how important it was, and I was willing to give it a try, but I felt good knowing there was a formula backup. And then he was born, and I really wanted to nurse him. Unfortunately he was born with the most horrible case of reflux.  Read more >

About Me:

I am Elaine, also known as Laine (Lay-nee) – mother, artist for-hire, freelancer, and doer of odd jobs. I spend my days juggling kids and work, making plans and making lists, and contemplating what it’s like to be an organized disaster.

I am often stressed to the max.

I am frequently spotted dancing to music in grocery store aisles and to Weather Channel muzac at home. Word.

I like wine, cooking, autumn, Christmas, birthdays, and watching my kids when they don’t realize it. I have an extensive collection of black clothing and can’t seem to buy colors. No I am not in mourning. I just like black, it’s slimming.

I wish I had more time. To play with my kids, get skinny, and drink wine and read.

I have a lot of plans for success, including but not limited to building a media empire.

Here is my blog. It turns out I am a pretty good conversationalist. I am also hysterical. At least I think so anyway.
