  1. Rules of Civility is Classic and Smooth

For me, Rules of Civility by Amor Towles recalls F. Scott Fitgerald. It also reminded me of the passion I felt when reading Henry James, so I loved it.  Read more >

  2. Sapphire's The Kid Tags the Heart

Sapphire leaves you breathless, itching and wanting to vacuum her head out. Yet, in reading we are certain there is genius there.  Read more >

  3. Saying Goodbye to Sarah Dessen's What Happened To Goodbye Was Not Easy

Ever have one of those reads where you felt like you were a silent traveler taking a journey alongside the characters? Sarah Dessen's What Happened to Goodbye created that feeling for me.  Read more >

  4. Something About Terry McMillan's Getting To Happy

Savannah, Bernadine, Robin, and Gloria have made their comeback. I suppose that the author, Terry McMillan, had grown tired of these gals after having such a huge success with Waiting to Exhale the book and the movie. After-all, "waiting to exhale" is a tag line now when folks are attempting to share that they are attempting to push through trials in their lives and move on.  Read more >

  5. A Discovery Of Witches Was a Bumpy Ride

I am a HUGE fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, Ann Rice, C.S. Lewis and Phillip Pullman, so when A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness arrived I was definitely intrigued.  Read more >

  6. A Jane Austen Education for Us All

  7. Girl In Translation is a Great American Tale

Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok was a true expression. It is a real treat to follow line by line. Kwok writes in such a manner that it is easy to become engulfed in her knack for literary brilliance. You turn pages not even realizing that you are in a book, for hours you are taken in which is my capstone for a good read.  Read more >

  9. Spring Into Sexual Health

Learning about your sexuality as a young woman is always perplexing. During my teen years, we were in an era of discretion, prissiness, and feminine mystique. There was no erotica, pleasure information or candid talks.Women gave their teen girls a "package" upon their pubescent transitioning. It contained these HUGE, horrific HORSE pads that you had to pin into your underwear. I recall staring blankly, as I pulled out pamphlets that had archaic illustrations. VERY overwhelming for someone who really had no pubic hairs yet.  Read more >

  10. Some of you may have seen on Twitter that I recently discovered my teen has no imagination! I am devastated! Having grown up where television actually "went off" at a certain hour, there were many nights when all we had was our imaginations! I can recall it being about 11pm, we would wrestle into pajamas and brush our teeth so when Mystery Theatre came on the radio, we could give it our FULL attention.   Read more >
