    When you tell people that you are voluntarily moving into a 24 foot travel trailer with your husband and two kids, you get to enjoy a variety of reactions. Confusion, excitement, doubt.     Yesterday afternoon I had five shoe racks in my closet, which still wasn’t enough storage space to prevent having to line my boots up along the wall. By the end of the night, I had whittled my collection down to one hanging rack. I’ll be honest and admit that I walked around my bathroom in a few pairs before I packed them away.     It was odd for me to email her. Although we’ve met once and I’ve written about her, Karen and I aren’t close friends. Certainly not the kind of friends that email each other on the way home from therapy.     Do you ever notice that when you talk about rape or abuse or sexual assault, people come out in droves to tell you that they’ve been through something similar? And no one is surprised. And why should they be? We’ve all heard the statistics. 1 in 6 women (and 1 in 33 men) will be sexually assaulted. 60% are not reported to the police.     I am a woman. And I blog. Surely that means that I should fit in perfectly at BlogHer. Right? If ever there was a niche for me to nestle into, this would certainly be it. Except... I find myself wondering if maybe I'm not deep enough for the women of BlogHer. Every day I come here, looking for ways to contribute and new ideas.     Who doesn’t love a post about Abortion? First, some background information (ie, where the hell this is coming from). I read a post a while back about a blogger who had an abortion. This was a decision she’d made a long, long time ago and she has since become a wife, mother, etc. etc. etc. She decided to post about it because of a post that she had read. She came out and said “I had an abortion, this was why, and this is how I feel about it”.  Read more >

My name is Britt Reints and I am afreelance writer and professional blogger for hire.  Mostly.

In August of 2007, my husband and I packed up our two children and moved from Parkersburg, Iowa to the Orlando, Florida area.  We left behind both of our families and the friends we had spent our entire lives with.  Why?  Because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Also: shoveling snow blows.  We were completely unprepared for how expensive babysitters are when they are not grandparents.  We still live in Central Florida, but we’re currently planning an extended vacation around the United States.  Why?  Because we’ve survived depression and family tragedy and damn near getting divorced and we’re still here.  So,why the hell not?

When people ask, “what do you do?”, I usually reply with the most succinct, “I’m a writer”.
