It might make you grit your teeth and make smoke pour from your ears, but I am thrilled that health care reform passed. Let me tell you why. I’m one of those uninsured Americans everyone’s always talking about.

I love the movies. I love the whole experience of going to the theater: the big screen, the digital sound, the popcorn oozing with that fake "butter." I love it all. Before I was a mom I was a regular movie goer, especially when I was a student. The local theater had a student discount program and a frequent movie goer deal that let you earn free movie tickets/snacks. Read more >
I'm feeling really guilty about something. This morning I distracted my ten month old daughter with a cartoon (Dinosaur Train) while I shoved about 4 oz of yogurt into her gaping maw while she watched. I've talked a little bit about it over on my blog; the doctor has told us she's underweight and that we need to feed her more. Enter my child who would rather wipe the food all over her face than put it in her mouth. A child who also is on the go nonstop from the moment she wakes up until it's time to go to bed. Read more >
I grew up in a pretty white-bread neighborhood. You're practically handed a loaf of Wonder Bread when you enter the city. OK, so maybe I exaggerate, but until I was in junior high, I thought my brother and I were the only Asian kids in town, and we were certainly the only ones in our school.

The other day I was reading one of many old and unread Parenting magazines. These things tend to stack up at our house, because I have very little time to read. I also think they are magically multiplying when I'm not looking. One of the articles mentioned Amber Alert bracelets for kids. I must admit that I haven't thought much about this before becoming a parent. I checked out the web site and ended up signing up for mobile phone updates. Read more >

Twice a year, I become an I.T. Widow. My boyfriend/father of my child/love of my life, is a Director of Information Technology at a small liberal arts college. Director might be his official title, but in reality, he's just the head geek of a very small computing staff that is responsible for all of the computing activities of the university. Read more >
Long distance relationships suck. Before my daughter was born, I worried about how it would be living so far away from my family. When I moved away almost six years ago, I thought it was a great arrangement. My job at the time let me go back and forth whenever I wanted. I visited three or four times a year. It was enough to stay connected, yet not too often that I couldn't wait to get in the car to drive home at the end of the visit. Read more >
I am the eldest of four children; my brother and I are adopted from Korea. (My mother gave birth to my two sisters later.) She always told us that she "loved all of us the same," regardless of whether we were her adopted or biological children.
I mostly believed her.
I didn't think about the difference too much when I was young. It was when I got older that I began thinking about my mysterious blood relatives. I also wondered if parents could truly love their adopted children as much as their biological children. Was there a real difference?
