  1. When Cleaning Out the Closet Requires Professional Help

I'm a slob. I admit it. I'm not proud of it; in fact, it drives me crazy. Clutter stresses me out, and yet ... I just let it pile up because finding the time to clean it all stresses me out, too. It's a vicious cycle.  Read more >

  2. Get Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar Look for Less!

There are always Oscar dresses that qualify as incredible, amazing, and ... totally out of the realm of possibility for the majority of us. And that's fine -- some of those are the most fun to critique during red carpet coverage! But you know what's also fun? Finding a look that you can recreate for a mere fraction of the cost. That being said, let's see what we can do with Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscars 2012 look.  Read more >

  3. Glam Up for the New Year: 5 Finds Under $15

Accessories, glitter, New Year's Eve, shopping, sequins, makeup,

I'm pretty talented at finding excuses for needing to buy a new dress, but I'm also pretty practical, and after doing my holiday shopping and throwing a few parties, well, let's just say that I'm willing to shop, but the bank account is beginning to complain. A lot.  Read more >

  4. The Season's Coziest Cardigans Aren't Lacking in Style!

cardigans, sweaters, winter, fashion, style, shopping

If it hasn't already arrived in your neck of the woods, rest assured, winter's coming. Myself, I'm more of a spring, summer, and fall kind of girl, but even I have to admit, Jack Frost has his charms. And mostly they involve getting to wear the coziest clothes in my closet. There's something about sitting on the couch and wrapping myself up in a chunky knit that sooths my soul. At least until I have to go outside and be cold, that is.  Read more >

  5. High Style, High Tech - Stylish Solutions for your iPad & E-Readers

ipad, cases, tech cases, kindle, tech

About a year ago, I bought my husband a Kindle. He travels a lot for work and really loves to read, so it was a pretty perfect gift, if I do say so myself. Or, at least it was, until he let me borrow it for a trip across the country, after which he found it nearly impossible to pry his treasure from my vice-like grip. I was almost done with Mockingjay -- you can't expect a girl to put down a book like that, can you?  Read more >

  6. Clever, Comfy & Cute! Folding Flats for Funky Feet

ballet flats, flats, shoes, comfy shoes

I don't know about you, but I spend a lot more time walking around outside in the Summer than any other season. I'm far more likely to go to dinner or for drinks downtown (where I know I'll be walking a few blocks from where I park) when the sky is clear and my wool coat is a distant memory. But summer dresses mean a lot of strappy sandals, funky wedges, and killer heels. And those don't always go well with that whole walking thing, you know?  Read more >

  7. The Beach Trees: A Lesson in Post-Katrina Gulf Coast Culture

Culture shock doesn't always require a passport, proven in Karen White's latest book, The Beach Trees. There's no other way to describe Julie Holt's initial reaction to everything she experiences on her first trip to the Gulf Coast, visiting the hurricane-ravaged landscape and heartbroken family her best friend, Monica left behind but described in detail, both with words and paintings, until her untimely death.  Read more >

  8. Defining Your Style When an Inspiration Board Won't Work for You

    style, finding your style, pinterest

It seems like well-dressed friends of mine are always talking about defining personal style. And for the love of Audrey Hepburn, do I love that idea. I've gone through phases where I think I've figured it out, and I've got my classic, preppy wardrobe in place. But then, I realize I really like that wild, sixties floral pattern muumuu, and wouldn't it be amazing with those crazy wedges? And also, I'm definitely digging that motorcycle jacket.  Read more >

  9. Spring Specs: Go Ahead, Call Me Four Eyes, I Love My Glasses!

    eyeglasses, glasses, specs, trends, eyewear,

Way back in fourth grade (no, I'm not going to do the math for you, but you can safely assume it was back in the late '80s, early '90s days of fashion), I got my first pair of eyeglasses. Now, I didn't really need them, but I was a huge bookworm and constantly reading, often with the book just inches from my nose (you know, in true nerdy style), and, more importantly, I already had a real thing for accessories.  Read more >

  10. Accessories That Bring the Spring

When the calendar says April and sundresses are on full department store display, it doesn't matter how hot or cold it is outside -- everybody wants a little spring style in their wardrobe. And I've got five lovely looks that will work even for those of you who have a month or two before you can even consider wearing shorts.  Read more >

About Me:

I'm a 30-something freelance writer/editor/blogger living as stylishly as possible, considering it's generally at least 200 degrees outside and I live in a college town where folks wear their "good" flip-flops out to dinner. I live with my husband and two dogs who have all learned to pretend not to notice when my hair just isn't working.

If I'm not here, chances are pretty good that I'm at the gym, eating (which is why I have to go to the gym so much), or drinking wine (yep, another reason for the gym). Though sometimes I'm here AND drinking wine, which is when things really get fun.
