  1. Dear Television: I Love You

    Glenn Close Courtesy of DirecTV

In my early twenties, I remember being at some sort of a party - a BBQ perhaps? A dinner party? I can't be sure. While the details of the party are a hazy mystery, I do recall the conversation, which stunned me."I can't wait," my friend Janet said, "for the fall television lineup. I have it all planned out." She then went on to list which shows she was watching, the times and channels. As it was ten years ago, I cannot quite recall what they were. But I do remember both her excitement and conviction. It just seemed so...odd.  Read more >

  2. Close To Home: Why I'm Still Thinking About "Homeland"

Upon learning that Showtime (which is home to two of my favorite shows - Dexter and Weeds) had developed a dramatic series about domestic terrorism, I was intrigued. Showtime usually manages to captivate their audience well, and Homeland -- a thriller adapted for American television from the Israeli show Hatufim (translation: Abducted) -- was no exception with its too-short season.  Read more >

  3. "House, M.D." Is Cancelled. Somehow Life Will Go On. Somehow.

    House, M.D.

Today is a sad, sad day.Not only did I wake up and break a nail while getting dressed, but I learned that one of my favorite television antiheroes will no longer be, well, my favorite television antihero. That's right - after 8 blissfully long seasons, House, M.D., will end its run this May. I am heartbroken.  Read more >

  4. Oh Lindsey Lohan. What's Become of You, Girl?

Oh Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay. No, I'm not trying to channel my inner Jan Brady here, I just wanted to take a moment to sound maternal. I mean, if anyone could use a mother, it's you. Your own mother is, bless her heart, not exactly the sort of woman that you should be looking up to.Lindsay Can You Hear Me?  (Image Courtesy of Zuma Press)  Read more >

  5. JLo and Marc Anthony Split. Is Anyone Surprised?

So Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are splitting up.I'm going to be honest when I say that I never understood why they got married in the first place. Then again, I'm still not over the Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston split. They were the perfect couple! I'm hoping against hope for a comeback marriage for those two.  Read more >

  6. House, MD, Relapses. Turns Out Addiction Isn't That Funny.

    Hugh Laurie as House

Anyone who has watched House, MD for very long knows that Dr. House, the anti-hero and my television husband, has struggled with a raging Vicodin addition. He uses, becomes addicted to, then abuses Vicodin to manage chronic pain of an old leg injury.  Read more >

  7. (SPOILERS) House, MD Is Larger Than Life

    Candice Bergen on House

The January premiere of House, MD, found us watching as a man -- Jack Nash -- heroically saved a woman stuck in the throes of a seizure on the subway tracks (no one, I thought was interesting, asked how a woman having a seizure ended up there in the first place, but I digress). Nash collapses afterward, injuries unrelated to the train, deemed by the press "The Subway Hero."  Read more >

  8. My Name Is Becky And I Am Not An Alcoholic

I am an adult child of two alcoholics, and although there are nifty acronyms used to refer to us, I prefer my real name: Becky. The Internet knows me as Aunt Becky and I blog over at a seemingly incongruently named site: “Mommy Wants Vodka.” Perhaps you have heard of me, mixed into articles about Diane Schuler, the lady who killed her kids, bashing me for being a Cocktail Mom.  Read more >

Aunt Becky Sherrick Harks

Full Name
Aunt Becky Sherrick Harks
Member Since
February 2008
About Me:

A former nurse with a penchant for tomfoolery and mischief, Becky Sherrick Harks rocks the suburbs and raises her three children, Alex, Ben and Amelia. Or maybe they raise her, no one knows for sure. She uses her medical knowledge to feel smugly superior to television hospital dramas and lives an elaborate fantasy life married to her televison husbands. It's not perhaps the life she envisioned for herself, but she's happy. Also: if she had a camel, she'd name it Stampy. Wouldn't you?
