I first began writing in the 1980s as a columnist for my small town's newspaper. I was in the 8th grade and every week, I wrote about the goings-on at my Junior High School. The column continued through until I went to college and I transitioned to writing for a dorm newspaper. After my first year in college, I stopped writing.
Fast forward to 2007 and I began writing again, this time it was for a blog. It was my friend's blog and it was my first paid writing gig in more than a decade. That little American Idol-themed blog made me realize how much I missed writing and I've since pursued blogging and writing for both print and web media with a new passion.
I now own three niche blogs (down from five) and blog for several other sites. The majority of my writing is focused on two topics - special needs children and environmental topics.
