  1. The Gynecological Exam - Not For The Faint of Heart

DISCLAIMERS:  MEN, you may not like this post, for it will provide details of a very private exam. However, by reading it, you may garner a better understanding of why women can be bitchy. For that reason, you should continue on.  WOMEN, you may not like this post because there will be SPOILERS about what we will face upon menopause and older age! But since you will eventually relate, you should continue on. So today I went to see the gynecologist.  Read more >

  2. Networking To Find A Job

Last evening I attended a meeting sponsored by a local group here in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago called TUG (Tri-City Unemployment Group). I had read about the group on a blog from an employment agency recruiter, Elyse  here near Geneva, IL.  Read more >

  3. $ 122,000 A Year For A Mom

Over at www.salary.com, they've conducted their version of the yearly salary for a stay-at-home Mom. After calculating the hours a Mom puts in each week for such things as cleaning, laundry services, facilities manager, van driving services, and top chef (to list only a few), they came up with a yearly salary of $ 122,732.  Read more >

  4. The Needy and The Needy

I was just thinking about life and all of it's complexities. That's enough to make your mind go into overload. It's like a machine about to overheat, that rattles and shakes and eventually explodes, spewing its contents into the open and making anyone nearby run for cover. It can get ugly. So I try not to think about the subject much. But this morning I was standing outside and my mind went there. More specifically, I was thinking about people who are needy versus those who are, well, just needy. And there is a difference.  Read more >

  5. Dear Heart

Dear Heart, "Wish you were here." Remember that song from the old Andy Williams record? Well, sometimes I sing it to you, don't I? You know I'm just kidding with you, right? We've been through a lot together, you and I. Forty five years now and still my mind wars against you. How do you put up with that? There've been so many times, especially during the last several years, when I've wondered how you will survive. But I'm writing today to tell you that it's going to be okay. You taught me that.  Read more >

  6. It's That Time of the Year for Chicken Soup! What's Your Recipe?

It's that time of the year when the temperature drops (even in North Carolina) and the cold/flu season makes us want to wrap around a bowl of hot chicken soup, a warm blanket, and a good book. I don't know if it is the combination of ingredients or just the fact that the soup is homemade that makes us feel better. My personal opinion on the matter is that it is the thought of someone putting their love and time into the soup that somehow positively affects our well-being. Like the egg nog that my Mom used to make for me when I was sick as a young girl.  Read more >

  7. Teenage Guest Blogger Shares Advice on Moving

For the last several days I've been homesick. Well, not sick for the place, but the people. I miss my friends and relatives from the Northeast. I shared my thoughts with a fellow blogger. She's a teenager who wrote a blog about her experience a while ago. I asked if I could post her advice here on my site and she said "yes." Some of you may recognize the post from her blog. I took the liberty to edit some things, such as the places, just for her protection. You just never know what some people will say or do these days... Here is her advice:  Read more >

  8. Guest Rant--Tip Your Stylist, Please!

My cousin, who does not currently blog, asked that I post her opinion on tipping your hair stylist. As a manager of a franchise, and stylist herself, she has a legitimate rant about this subject. Here is what she wrote in her own words:  Read more >

  9. Don't Drink and Buy Underwear

You know that saying "don't drink and drive"....then there's the quote from the movie Knocked Up: "don't drink and bone"....well, I have a new one to add: "Don't drink and buy underwear!" One night last week my friend Maurya and I went out to dinner and had two Margaritas each. After dinner I decided that I needed some new underwear, so we went to a Walmart because it was right next to the restaurant. Not realizing that the tequila was influencing my decisions, I purchased several pair of underwear and went home.  Read more >

  10. Relocating and Seeking Advice

So I'm thinking seriously of leaving Long Island and moving to the Raleigh, NC area. My niece (who is a single mom of two young boys) and I are going to be living together. This will be HUGE change for me, since I've lived by myself for over 25 years, and for her family since they've also been alone, living in Massachusetts. But we're thinking that together, we can help each other to make better lives for all of us. The problem is that as much as we talk about the move, we can't decide what to do first. So I thought I'd post a blog here, and ask the Blogher community for advice!  Read more >
