  1. Three Peas in a Mailbox

Almost four years ago, I left everything behind except for my kitchen table, pictures, books, and my sanity. The monkeys and I started fresh. We worked on healing and coming together as a family of three. One night, not long after we moved into our little townhouse, I had a weird notion that we needed a family motto. Supertween came up with "three peas in a pod." Timesboy came up with "three envelopes in a mailbox."  Read more >

  2. The Shadows Among Us

She is sick and I know the mortality rate for her illness is higher than any other mental illness. Schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, associative disorders, all of the labels that make ‘normal’ people shudder- they have a higher rate of survival than anorexia.  Read more >

  3. Just between us and our two thousand friends...

Facebook. We all have an account. Many of our kids have accounts. Truth be told, some of our pets have accounts. I may or may not follow a rusted metal chicken named Beyonce on Facebook. I stop at following a friend's sock monkey but that is simply because I have standards. Ahem.  Read more >

  5. A touch of flu

Five to nine servings of vegetables a day. Lean proteins. Fish oil pills fo rmy Omega-3s. Neti pot. Constant washing of hands with old fashioned soap. I do all of the things we are supposed to do to stay healthy except for possibly getting enough sleep and avoiding stress. Those two things are just not going to happen in my world, except maybe in a feverish dream.  Read more >

  6. Less Than

The first time that I consciously remembered the taste of being poor was in middle school. I babysat often for a wealthy woman in our small town. She had two young sons whom I watched and a daughter who was about ten years older than me. I watched the boys several times a week and idolized V, their older sister. She went to the local university and came home sporadically while I was there.  Read more >

Poor. Poor isn’t just the old homeless men standing in line at the Marion House Soup Kitchen. It isn’t only the dreadlocked kids off the interstate with cardboard signs.  Read more >

  8. She Who Must Not Be Named

I had this idea that my ex, affectionately known as Douchebag, and I could figure out how to get along after the divorce. I envisioned us marrying/dating people who would be wise enough to realize that positive relationships are good for every party involved. I daydreamed that we could even work out some sort of friendship after a bit of time. I assumed that any adult we brought into our respective lives would love and adore our kiddos and be beneficial to them.  Read more >

  9. Peeking in the Windows

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." My arse. When I have worked really really hard on something and someone else takes it, I want to imitate Naomi Campbell going after the stalkerazzi.  Read more >

  10. barely good enough.

Supertween. Good God, I love my girl. I usually love these tween years. I love how she has one foot in little girl-ness and one foot in growing up. She plays with Littlest Pet Shop animals but she also wants skinny jeans. She likes Spongebob but also wants to be Angelina Jolie kicking arse and taking names.  Read more >
