  1. Good Advice For New Book Bloggers: Need suggestions please?

I've blogged about books since 2008. Largely, I'll admit, by the seat of my pants, figuring it out as I go along, and exploring the community of book bloggers. A dear friend came to me for advice about starting her own book blog. I could use some help and recommendations: What book bloggers do you think get it right? Any great posts that capture the best a book blog can be? Any other thoughts on what makes a book blog good? 2. Finally, a writing challenge that might work for me

Every year, hundreds, maybe thousands, of writers hunch over their keyboards in November, trying to churn out 50,000 words of a reasonably complete novel. In solidarity, I start looking around for a writing project, even, in desperation, eying old novel drafts. 3. Happy Halloween: Spooky Books Written By Women

Last week, the folks at Women's Voices For Changeasked me to write a book review roundup of the best spooky stories out there, written by women. While I was working on it, I realized a few things:I have read a lot more very scary books written by men, than I have women. (The Dead Path still gives me the shivers, ages after I read it.)  Read more >

  4. Love At First Bark: It's a Dog's Life

In this slim volume, Klam tells the story of some of the dogs she has loved. She is a big-hearted dog rescuer living in New York city. And in each chapter, she introduces a dog she has loved. Klam shares her apartment with three, sometimes four dogs. Her heart goes out to dogs with special needs, desperate cases that might not find a home somewhere else. A trip to New Orleans with her husband was, in large part, a mission to help rescue a feral dog with a jar stuck on its head. (They ate beignets and heard music in the city too, but the trip was largely about the dog.)  Read more >

  6. Book List for Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon

Autumn is my favorite season in general: football, pumpkins, chilly weather for wearing socks and sweaters. I have no idea what I'll dress as this Halloween, but I am starting to assemble my book list.  Read more >

  10. Book Reviewing on a Kindle

After lots of "research" (also known as dithering), I decided to get a Kindle about a month ago. I never thought I'd be this hooked on it. It is good for many things:  Read more >
