  1. March and Spring

For those of you who read my blog, you have already heard the news. I can't help but appreciate the beauty of the symbolism... As winter ends (and it has been a rough one) and we head into spring, I get to marvel in the tentative beginnings of potential life. Of course, it's still new and fragile.  Read more >

  2. Death Threats and Zoomorphism: The Case of Nadya Suleman

The more I hear about Nadya Suleman the more disturbed I get. For those of you who have not heard (and  Read more >

  3. Munsch Giveaway: Family Literacy Day!

Today is Family Literacy Day (at least it is in Canada), and though I am still recovering, we managed to have our own little Family Literacy Day gathering. Obviously, as an English teacher, literacy is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. I can't teach the world to sing in perfect harmony (I can't even teach myself to do that... and really, you don't want to hear me try), but I can teach the world to read (or  Read more >

  4. Can't. Stop. Laughing.

I love my family. I really do. My parents are incredible people and my wonderful childhood is filled with happy memories. My dad is a doctor and he's the kind of guy you want to be YOUR doctor. He still makes house calls for his elderly and infirm patients. He stays at the office until every patient who needs to be seen has been seen. He is a big teddy bear. My mom is an artist. She is a free spirit, she has a great sense of style and she looks about 20 years younger than she is. Seriously, I'd kill for her body. They grew  Read more >

  5. My Former Self

The babysitter came by yesterday afternoon for a couple of hours. For the first time all week, I had the chance to just take a relaxing shower and get ready without interruption. I remember the days where I took advantage of that luxury. I even ::gasp:: had time to blow dry my hair!  Read more >

  6. Nine Months

This morning, as I was helping Peanut put on her sweatshirt, she said "left hand, right hand" as she was putting them through the sleeves. I nearly fell on the floor. She really likes talking about directions. In the car she'll tell me "Mommy, turn dees way" if she wants to go somewhere (and she always knows which direction takes her to her desired destination).  Read more >

  8. Chanuka VI: Boxing Day

In Canada, Boxing Day is the big sale day. Which basically means "great" deals and a lot of crowded malls and pushing and shoving. In other words, not my scene. My mom and my sis are big shoppers. They can spot a deal a mile away and "shop till they drop". Me, I'd rather be sitting in a quiet corner of the bookstore with a coffee in one hand and a good book in the other. I hate crowds, I hate shopping, it's just not for me.  Read more >

  9. Chanukah IV: And Merry Christmas (Eve)!

Today it feels as though we've turned a corner. I woke up with my voice (mostly) intact for the first time in days, Peanut seems to be on the mend as well (a bit of a nagging cough, but  Read more >

  10. Chanukah III: The One With the Toy FAIL

Tonight we lit the third candle. After our songs and dinner, Peanut got to pick out a present for tonight. I was so excited when she picked this one. It had everything that she loved. Stuff that she can build, check. Favourite characters, check. Cool box (yeah, sometimes it's all about the box), check.  Read more >
