  1. Meg Whitman: Can Her $59 Million Save California?

I’ve never really gotten involved in politics.  But I was totally jazzed when Meg Whitman - a mother and wife who has had a successful career, including a 10 year stint as CEO of eBay, announced she was running for California Governor.  Everyone knows the state of California needs someone who can get things done, build consensus amongst wildly disparate groups and is transparent while doing it.   Read more >

  2. Event Chair Matrix - Worker Bee to Diva

When it comes to chairing an event in the world of volunteer fundraising, it's no question it takes a certain type of dedicated character who can pull off a successful event. The responsibility of managing committees, budgets, vendors, marketing, and all else in between requires an individual who can demonstrate leadership while being a team player.   Read more >

  3. Are Charity Galas Facing Extinction?

The earth evolves and the world turns. The poor old dinosaur hit a brick wall due to the ice age…or was it a meteor? Or both? Whatever you believe one thing is for sure, they ultimately couldn’t survive the resulting dramatic climate change. So is the lavish black-tie Charity Gala in for its own abrupt end? A storm of factors are causing fundraising organizations from Newport Beach to Palm Beach to re-evaluate the scale and grandeur of black-tie galas.   Read more >

  4. Is the Junior League relevant?

As volunteer groups diversify with the addition of men and fundraising goes viral with the click of a key, where does that leave female-only charitable organizations like the Junior League?  Founded over a hundred years ago by young debutantes with time on their hands, its relevance is called into question in this age of equal pay, mommy-blogs and hip young professionals flocking to Arts organizations.   Read more >

  5. Charity Auction Tips

With the recession suppressing charity fund raiser ticket sales, more and more organizations are looking to Live Auctions to help make up for lost revenue.  Many are huge successes but there are a few tips to keep in mind when planning your own:     1.       If you have international travel packages you will substantially increase the value by including airfare. If you have no  Read more >

  6. DUL Driver's Wanted

t’s not that I’m impatient; I just consider myself an efficiency expert. I'm very patient, actually: I let the shopper with a single item go in front of me in the Costco check-out line (why won’t they offer an 80 Items or less Quick Checkout line?). Matter of fact, I'm quite considerate: I’m not one of those who hovers next to the jet way waiting for my Section to be called just to be first to get space in an overhead bin (I usually overpack and therefore check bags).  Read more >

  7. Taking the bus to work

I never really thought of myself as a public transportation kind of gal. Oh right, I speak fluent Metro in Paris to be one with the natives. But as far as taking the bus…in my own city? I’ve got an automobile for that purpose not to mention taxi and town car services on speed dial.  Read more >

  8. My Favorite Skin Products

I got carded again. It’s the third time in six months and trust me, I’m as surprised as you are. But this time I had a witness – my mom. Being on the north side of fifty, I am sure you can appreciate just how happily shocked I am. I called a few friends to share the good news; if I didn’t call you consider yourself lucky – I’m told there’s nothing like a smug friend breathlessly calling from her  Read more >
