  1. Currier & Ives Christmas

Last night we were driving to have dinner at a restaurant we love on the seawall in Galveston. We drove down Broadway which is the main drag through the heart of Galveston and where many of the historic homes are lined up.  Read more >

  2. Bulgur, Red Quinoa, and Black Beans

I’ve been trying to introduce more whole grains into our diet and quinoa is one of the ones I have had the hardest time working into the menu. I haven’t been a huge fan of quinoa in the past because I simply didn’t like the texture of it.  This evening though, I managed to create a dish that was delicious and incorporated some good grains. I found bulgar and red quinoa at Central Market here in Houston. It is the quick-cooking type of bulgar and of course, quinoa cooks fairly fast on its own.Ingredients:1/2 cup Bulgar & Red Quinoa1 cup water  Read more >

  3. Beer Bread

    Beer Bread

The day I learned to make beer bread was a great one. It happened quite a few years ago. Too long ago to recall even where I got the recipe. It is one of the easiest recipes I know. And it is my most requested recipe from friends and family. Why on earth none of them can recall how to make a 4-ingredient quick-bread is beyond me.  Read more >

  5. Cake Pops

Today is National Lollipop Day. But rather than focus on the standard lollipops we all remember as the cause of multiple cavities as children, I want us to take a look at this new and improbable craze that has swept our fair nation: cake pops. Now cake pops are not something I can get behind whole-heartedly. After all they are ONLY ONE BITE OF CAKE! Seriously, one.  Read more >

  8. 20th Anniversary

Yesterday Danny and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. Where did the years go we asked? If pressed, how could I condense 20 years into a few paragraphs for a blog post? Here’s where the years went: We worked. We went to college. We finished college. I went back for a master’s. We worked some more. We moved a few times. We travelled. We had our daughter at the turn of the millennium. We bought a house. We sold our family restaurant.  Read more >

  9. May Holidays

A couple of months ago I stumbled upon the brilliant idea of celebrating obscure holidays as a month-long blog posting frenzy on my website. Each day I wrote about some way that I celebrated from cooking food to writing down a memory. The series was so much fun that I have continued it in April and now in May also. Here is the list of some various holidays I will celebrate this month including mine and my husband's 20th wedding anniversary on May 18.  Read more >

  10. Zucchini Bread

Believe it or not, yesterday was National Zucchini Bread Day. Cooks all across America spent the day revelling in the joys of baking a sweet bread using a common green vegetable. So I present my recipe for zucchini bread with the unexpected ingredient of prunes. The prunes add natural sweetness. And even people who hate prunes won't be able to detect the presence of the prunes in this bread.  Read more >
