    I couldn't really watch all of Grey's Anatomy last night, once I saw that tiny "micro-preemie" baby.In fact, any time they have a show with one of those kids as a large part of the episode, I can't watch.Maybe it's ridiculous after all this time, but all it takes is a few minutes of seeing one of those little one-pounders to make me feel right back there in the NICU.After 17 years, it still seems like yesterday, like last night, like an hour ago.  Read more >

    Yesterday was the dreaded IEP meeting for my son - actually, mine are pretty okay. He's in the multiple-disability class you know, so it's always pretty much the same. The goals are simple: matching words to objects, putting blocks in a bucket, tolerating the stander for 45 minutes at a time, choosing the letters of his name and stamping his name on paper. Really the only thing that ever changes is the percentage of times he's expected to get the task correct.   Read more >

  8. Maybe I DO need an iPad after all

    So I've mostly pooh-poohed the idea of the iPad - I mean sure, they look really cool and fun to play with and stuff, but did I NEED one? No. I've got 2 pcs and a netbook. I can't afford an iPhone or any kind of smart phone, but I haven't really noticed that I'm missing out on anything except playing Angry Birds or word games and frankly I don't have time for that anyway. But then today, I saw that the iPad has apps for disabled kids. I teared up at the thought that after 15 years, I might finally be able to communicate with my non-verbal son.  Read more >
