Red beet is among the highest vegetable contributors of folic acid, which prevents certain types of birth defects and cancer and can protect against heart attacks.

The dietary nitrate contained in red beets can help reduce the blood pressure and the risk of adverse cardiovascular events. Beetroot juice boosts stamina and helps exercise for up to 16% longer because of a reduction in oxygen uptake and making exercise less tiring.
