I think I have finally arrived at my sweet spot friends!  I feel like I have fought and fought and fought and fought and worked to find something that works with me and my life and my family and I think I have finally gotten there! For me, it has all come down to being FLEXIBLE and not discounting with a day.  By that I mean, if I miss a day...or HAVE to miss a day, I don't discount all of my previous days work.  I think previously, in my other attempts to add a workout "routine" to my life, I would do really well for a couple of weeks, miss a day and it would all be over...no need to go on if I miss a day, right?  I needed to change that, extend myself some grace and look at the bigger picture.  Days missed don't matter as much as days ON!  I have to keep on keeping on and get over the days I can't exercise and that was just a reality for me.

Another missing piece I needed to succeed is variety.  I needed some cardio days and some yoga days (I use Jillian's Yoga Meltdown) and even some elliptical days.  Since most days, I just expected myself to EXERCISE it was nice to be able to choose what I am in the mood for that day.  This works much better for me than having ONE choice of an exercise regime to choose from, not being in the mood to do that, and giving up for the day.  Which is what was happening.  I finally figured out that if I am FLEXIBLE and give myself options, it is much easier to get the job done.

Alysa also recommends switching things up a little to push past a plateau, which will only add to your motivation! I've still been doing my best to match up what I am doing with her recommendations as well. :)

I feel like I've had a huge breakthrough...maybe even made a long term life change or at least am moving in the right direction!

How are you doing with your New Years resolutions? Still going string or fallen by the wayside? Are you following along with me in BlogHer's Inspiration to Fitness program? Has it been motivating you?

Being flexible is key....no pun intended! I work out with Insanity form Beachbody as well as run and use my biketrainer. It is good to mix it up~ Today I felt like a lignt like training day, so that's what I did. Be flexible and love what you're doing, if at all possible :)

Ohh, I liked what you said about switching it up. Somewhere in my head, I decided that I wanted to do Jillian's Shred for twenty minutes every weekday. After I completed her thing, I had the freedom to do other stuff for 10 or 20 minutes. I've stuck to it, but today, while feeling sick, Jillian just seems way too ambitious, but I know I could probably benefit from Pilates or Yoga. I've kept to Jillian because she's the hardest and least desired and I didn't want to give myself an excuse. But I think it's probably just OKAY to change things out here and there. Thanks for the reminder!
