Victory is YOURS!

Friday at the close of the school day, I played in a faculty vs. students’ basketball game. I was a pretty good basketball player in high school, so I didn’t think I would embarrass myself completely. Aside from shooting a few baskets in the driveway with my kids, I haven’t played basketball in over 10 years! On the court I quickly realized my opponent was much better than me. She was faster, in better shape, better trained, and better able. When I used to play basketball all the time, I would lunge for the ball to swipe it. Not Friday. I knew my opponent was better than me, so I played it safe. After the game, I started thinking about how differently I played now, than I did in my younger days when I was more confident.
Life lesson: Play like a champion!
When you know you are the better player, things are different. First, when you know you are a champion you play with confidence, not arrogance. I was so impressed by the high school students. The teachers talked a lot more smack and resorted to silly antics, but the students just played the game with confidence. When you know you are the winner, you don’t need to talk, you just play the game. Second, when you know you are the better player, you are not afraid to take risks. As a high school athlete, I would charge right down the lane and shoot. Friday, I was scared I would get hurt if I dared enter the land of the tall, good athletes, so I played it safe. Third, when you know you are the better player, you play with a victor’s mindset. The opposing team may score, but you are not shaken. You know the victory is yours. I was amazed as the high school students just played their game and pursued the victory.
I am sure the life application’s from the game are important, because we are more than victors through Jesus Christ who loves us. Romans 8:37 says, “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” This passage of scripture reminds us that we are in a battle, but we are guaranteed the win. Because we are guaranteed the victory, we should play the game differently.
1. Play with confidence, you are a victor, a masterpiece of the God of the Universe. Live your life daily claiming the victory! Phil 1:6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
2. Take risks, having great faith. We have power as victors. His power working in us MAKES us able to do more than we ever imagined. Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
3. Claim victory! The victory is ours! We are more than over comers, full of power, and promised victory over death! We have the sure WIN! When we walk in that frame of mind, our faith abounds, our God is pleased, and we change the world! I Cor. 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Do you believe it? Are you living your life as a victor? Cast away doubts and fears! When you are His, you are a victor, you are MORE than an over comer! Get out there and play the game like a champion. Play well, play with confidence, take risks, and claim victory! It is YOURS!
