#BlogHer15: Experts Among Us Voices of the Year Submissions Are Open!

BlogHer Original Post

EDITED ON 2/9: Submissions have closed for the 2015 #BlogHer15: Experts Among Us Voices of the Year.

EDITED ON 01/19: See below for clarification on the definition of submission categories.

Today, we kick off your nominations for the Voices of the Year, our annual celebration of the most inspiring voices in our community. From these nominations will emerge our honorees, some of whom will take the stage to keynote #BlogHer15: Experts Among Us, in a gala event at the BlogHer annual conference in New York City in July 2015.

But wait — there’s more! This year is different. Bigger. Huge-er. In 2015 we are expanding this celebration to better reflect the extraordinary contribution you all are making to social media every day. It's our eighth annual @BlogHer #VOTY ("voh-tee" as we like to call it), where the creativity of this community will inspire us to laugh, to cry, to think ... to see the world through different eyes. But 2015 is the first year SheKnows Media and BlogHer have come together to host the world’s largest gathering of women in social media, so we’re expanding Voices of the Year to include all of social media to provide more opportunities for participation and more opportunities for inspiration.

We can't wait to see your favorite things YOU'VE done this year online!

2014 Community Keynote

We're asking you to help us find the most memorable, heart-stopping, brilliant, hilarious, impactful works of the past twelve months ... works that deserve to be heard, seen and read.

And this year we will recognize work across even more categories, spanning all forms of social media, including videos, visual eye candy, and other forms of online impact.

Voices of the Year Submissions Are Here 2015

This year the submission categories will include*:

  • Written work: Blog posts or online articles of 700 words or fewer
  • Individual photos
  • Short-form videos or animations of one minute or less, such as Vines, animated GIFs, etc.
  • Longer-form video of five minutes or less
  • Eye candy: Any curated visual expression that tells a story ... a Pinterest board, a Houzz Idea Book, an Instagram feed
  • Impact: The Internet is all about impact, and sometimes impact arises from the  sharing of content...whether via a hashtag, a meme that goes viral, a group Tumblr, a call to action, a deep exploration or investigation. The impact can be hilarity. The impact can be a collective "awwww." The impact can be to change the world.

 * EDITED TO ADD: The impact category is the place to share anything you feel doesn't fit into one of the other categories but had significant meaning or impact. That includes long-form essays. "Impact" and "viral" are in the eye of the beholder, and we've included a space to share *why* you think the content you're submitting had impact.

In order to allow you to submit your best work in any of the forms listed above, we've abolished sub-categories. We don't want to make you put yourself in a box; instead, we just want to see your best stuff. Bring it.

We'll work with our judging committee, including former Voices of the Year and leadership from across departments at BlogHer, SheKnows, and StyleCaster, to select the honorees. We have two rounds of judging, and in each round every submission is reviewed by at least two judges.

And just as in years past, all Voices of the Year will be honored at #BlogHer15: Experts Among Us in New York as part of a Community Keynote and Voices of the Year Reception on Friday, July 17, 2015. With our new categories and new content formats, get ready for the Community Keynote to rule them all.

Be a part of it by submitting your best work over the next four weeks. We can't wait to dig in. We can't wait to continue the Voices of the Year tradition of delivering inspiration!

DEADLINE: Submissions open today and close on February 9, 2015.

ELIGIBILITY: Any online work published between January 2014 – present is eligible. You need not be a BlogHer '15 attendee to be a Voices of the Year honoree, and (new for this year) you will not need to be preregistered in order to be invited to appear in the Community Keynote.

NOTE: Those who have previously read as part of the Community Keynote are eligible to be a Voice of the Year honoree, but reading your work in the Community Keynote is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

SUBMITTING: You are welcome, in fact encouraged, to submit your own work, as well as your favorite posts by other bloggers. You can submit as many different posts as you like.

Who chooses the Voices of the Year? Honorees are selected by a committee of past Voices of the Year and staff from across the BlogHer/SheKnows/StyleCaster team. Check out the list below for the full #VOTY Committee!

We thank them for their service. And we warn them to keep the tissues ready:
