BlogHer Original Post

On Thursday afternoon, Lisa Stone and Elisa Camahort Page opened the annual BlogHer conference with a live video address from none other than the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

UPDATED: The full, 15-minute video is here! Watch now.

What could be better than a sitting president talking to BlogHer about the importance of women bloggers? It might be the tears in the eyes of Elisa afterward, and the hug Lisa gave her.

In a video interview with the Wall Street Journal, Lisa spoke about the influence of women bloggers, politically and beyond: BlogHer has paid out $17 million to women in social media so far. And I couldn't be prouder.

I am so very proud of this community, and can't wait to see all the brilliance that shines forth from the conferencegoers over the next few days. Stay tuned for liveblogs and wrapups. And if you're not able to be in New York this weekend, make connections, find community, win stuff (!) and follow along via BlogHer at Home.

Note: As Elisa noted in her announcement, BlogHer invited both presidential candidates to speak at the conference and publish on BlogHer.com. Although Romney was unable to appear, both campaigns have representatives speaking at the conference this weekend, and we expect to continue hearing from both campaigns as we approach the election.
