It's a definite sign of spring when you start to see strawberries going on sale in your favorite market. Of course, fresh strawberries are so delicious you don't really need a recipe to enjoy them, but if you want to get a little more creative than just popping them into your mouth, this week I noticed some especially interesting strawberry recipes on my favorite food blogs. I'm betting more than one of these ideas will look good to you, and if you have another note-worthy recipe using strawberries, please share in the comments!

It doesn't get much cuter than these Strawberry Shortcake Sliders from Simply Recipes, which have an extra egg added to make the dough substantial enough that you can eat them with your hands. I'm thinking these would be a hit with strawberry lovers of any age.

Another strawberry shortcake inspired creation that looks pretty fantastic is the Strawberry Cream Cake from My Baking Addiction. Jamie describes this is as a "moist, citrus infused cake topped with fresh whipped cream and strawberries." Doesn't that sound good?

Or how about Chocolate and Hazelnut Dipped Strawberries from The Perfect Pantry? I especially like the way Lydia serves the strawberries on sticks so they're easy to eat.

If you'd like a strawberry treat for breakfast, I'd recommend the Homemade Strawberry Crossover Puff Pastries from White on Rice Couple. They look like the finest strawberry danish you ever tasted, made at home in your own kitchen.

Finally, an unusual but delicious way to use strawberries would be the Strawberry Lassi from The Purple Foodie. A lassi is a yogurt based drink that's popular in India, and it's traditionally made with mango, but I love the idea of a lassi made with strawberries.

Five More Tasty Ideas with Strawberries:

From Homesick Texan ~ Aunt Margaret's Strawberry Delight

From Rookie Cookie ~ Chocolate Strawberry Tart

From Umami Girl ~ Homemade Strawberry Lemonade

From David Lebovitz ~ Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

From Inn Cuisine ~ Strawberries and Cream Stuffed French Toast

(Every week on BlogHer, we spotlight five recipes with a common theme for Weekend Menu Planning, hoping one of them might make it onto the menu at your house. You can find previous recipes shared by clicking the tag Weekend Menu Planning.)

Kalyn Denny also blogs at Kalyn's Kitchen where she's focused on creating low-glycemic recipes using fresh ingredients. If Kalyn has strawberries on hand, she's probably going to be making Strawberries Romanoff or Strawberry Spinach Salad.

I'm excited for some strawberries now. Just waiting for the price to go down where I live!

I'm sure the strawberries I buy in Utah are also from California! We wouldn't get them here for months yet.

Strawberry shortcake is my all-time favourite dessert. And my favourite toy as a little girl!

Local strawberries won't be in season in Ontario for many months, but to be honest I prefer the California strawberries we import. Shhh...please don't report me!

I've never even heard of that, but how could they taste bad?

I'm in Louisiana and we are having our Strawberry Festival right now. Those all look grrrreat. I can't wait to try the sliders and Lassi.

Have you ever tried deep-fried strawberries? I know it probably sounds crazy, but they are sooooo good.

Grilled ham and cheese with spinach and strawberries? Sounds like a winner. (And I agree, the sliders look divine!)

Who doesn't like strawberry milkshakes? (Well my dad I guess, he only likes chocolate, but sounds good to me.)

They talked about putting strawberries with ham in a grilled cheese sandwich over on Tasty Kitchen. Did my own work-over on it (changed cheese, bread, added spinach), and what do you know? Actually very tasty!

Love the sliders!

We won't get that here for another few months. Those sliders do look quite tempting.

Glad you liked the recipe choices. The only thing that comes to mind for a savory choice is the Strawberry Spinach Salad I mentioned at the very end of the post. The dressing is slightly sweet, but with the spinach and dill, this is an interesting combination.

I keep seeing recipes combining strawberries and rhubarb, but I don't think I've ever tried it. Sounds good though.

You found some beautiful recipes, did you find anything that uses strawberries or rhubarb in a savoury dish?

We're as low as $1 per pint in Orlando; strawberry heaven! I made rhubarb-strawberry shortcake with rosemary shortcakes and Chantilly cream. So yummy!
