When it's cold outside people start thinking of comfort foods, and I'm guessing the humble potato would be at the top of the list for many people as being one of the ultimate winter comfort foods. I don't even eat white potatoes that often, but when I think of dishes I could never resist resist if they were served to me, at the top of my list would be Utah Funeral Potatoes. I'm willing to bet that people all over the world have their favorite potato comfort food dishes as well. BlogHer is doing A Month of Side Dishes this month, so here are twenty suggestions for absolutely drool-worthy potato side dishes you might want to put on your menu.

what a spread! I will have to try the pink potatoes that have the beets included. I love beets and especially when they are roasted. Excited to see what they are like when combined with potatoes.

I do love potatoes in cooler weather. I've been meaning try hasselback potatoes for the longest time and still haven't gotten to it. Maybe this will be the year!

Man, I'm in comfort heaven just by reading about these and looking at the photos! Those Crash Hot Potatoes do look awesome! I'm pretty fond of the Ultimate Oven Fries (especially now that I like heating up the house) and making my Pan-Roasted Potatoes in the microwave in a relatively short time, compared to that of most other potato recipes. :-)

Thanks, Kalyn! I'm definitely going to be trying some of these out. ;-)

I think potatoes are pretty easy to jazz up so they taste awesome! (And several of these are vegan, and most would be easy to make vegan!)

I don't have a piping bag either, but sometimes I use a thick Ziploc bag with the corner cut off. Works great for deviled eggs.

I've made one (Crash Hot Potatoes) and my husband has made the Hasselback potatoes. So yummy!

I'd love to make the duchess potatoes! Maybe I ought to put a piping bag on my wishlist... Seems like a decent number of the recipes I want to make require a piping bag.

I think of potatoes as the perfect vehicle for so many good flavors (like butter, olive oil, herbs, cheese, sour cream, etc!)

Oh Jenna, I actually think it's lovely that a favorite family dish like that can help you remember your Grandpa. Hope there are at least as many good memories as there are tears.

Mmm, potatoes.

I'm going to have to try a few of these. Or, uhm, maybe all!

We're having our hard fried potatoes for Christmas ... which is hard for all of us as they were my grandpa's favorite and specialty (he made them) ... and this is our first Christmas without him. So, my whole family will be sitting at the table crying over potatoes on Christmas... lovely.
