I try to meditate, but I can’t. Sometimes I manage a few sessions in a relatively short period of time, but then I go for weeks, or even months, before I try again. I absolutely buy into the benefits of breaking from the everyday for a few minutes, but I just haven’t been able to make it work for any sustained period of time.
Having Laurie Santos back on TheJuice talking about Mini-Mental-Vacations was a must-do for me. For one thing, I thought she was fabulous chatting with us about getting more sleep into our schedules. But this time she gave me yet another pearl of wisdom, a takeaway for those so challenged by meditating, a suitable half-step in the right direction. Something that helps me ground myself—quickly!—during times of stress or when I just need to regroup.
I hadn’t taken a mini-mental vacation before, but after this episode I’ve slipped away a few times, and it didn’t hurt me or my wallet a bit. If anything, I felt more energized, like I had given myself a huge ice cream sandwich, only without the calories. It was a mental treat.
