Welcome Back! Love, College

I am breaking the ice with my first blog. Let me tell you, I’m frightened!  It’s been a long time since I made any writings public, let alone allow anyone to read or hear them. *Deep breath* here we go:

After three years of not being able to attend school, I decided to go back in January of 2012 for my degree in Business Management.  My father graduated that previous summer with his Bachelor’s Degree while having a full time job and a family of six to take care.  All I have is a chinchilla.

I tried to apply for Mills College and was rejected due to my previous academic record.  It was a wake-up call that I needed to look at the woman in the mirror and make a… change! Come on! Community college was the best option for me. I spent money I barely had for books, registration, and a parking pass while moving into a new place to get my foot in the door.  Way better than getting a loan; I have two I’m still paying off. I don’t recommend it.

With the anxiety of having to make copies at the library for books I didn’t get in the mail yet, spending hours racking my brain over essays and projects, and even having to speed on the freeway to my father’s office to turn in a group report on time (my poor dad… he was just on his way out the door when I called), college spared no expense at welcoming me back. I made friends in my classes who were tired like me from full-time work and getting back into school.  College algebra sure kicked my booty! Thank goodness for my amazing boyfriend who tutored me through all the tough equations… and curved tests!

My teachers were very encouraging and helped me every step of the way. My boyfriend’s parents also let me use their computers for assignments during our gatherings. I was never one to take this much time out of my day for school. It’s like how my dad whipped out his laptop to work on a project at my cousin’s wedding.  I had to take a picture of him; it was ridiculous.

Despite it all, I received all A’s this semester.  I have a long way to go to make up for my past, but I’m ready for you, college! RAR!
