What About Our Civilian Contractors?

So after just getting of of Skype with my fiance and son of my father, I have to say that sometimes sadness takes over. Knowing that he has been in the Navy for 8 years and the Coast Guard for 2. As the American people are still struggling in this economy he has taken a civilian contract job over in Afghanistan to support our family. Although I am extremely grateful for what he is doing as a fiance, father, and man it truly does make me sad to know that he will be over there serving with our troops. But this time as a civilian contractor things will be a bit different for him. He'll be working on their vehicles making sure they're in good condition to go back out and fight some more.
To me I feel like our civilian contractors are forgotten about by most or most have never heard of them or even know what they do. As there are numerous jobs that fall under the "civilian contract" title, there are many of them over seas that should be recognized for being along side our troops. As most of them are prior military already.
Its interesting to me that in the economy we're in that our prior military is SUPPOSED to have "first" pick to jobs here in the USA and yet still they can't find work and they are narrowed down to going over seas again. I'm not saying this is the case for everyone, however I am saying this for most of my prior military friends.
So as for my fellow "civilian contractor" families are concerned, be proud of your partner for being who they are and that they're doing it for our families. Don't be afraid to take the support and help from the friends and family around you. You are not alone in such a battle, and neither are the single military mom's whose husbands and wives are over there too. You should feel honored as you are behind to take care of your children, and to teach them to be strong. Mom or dad will be home soon and then life will start where it "left off."
