What are the cosmetics you love? I mean, really really love in a long term let's get married kind of way.

Last week, I headed into the MAC store in my hood to grab perhaps my tenth refill of powder blush in Prism. And I realized, man, I've been wearing that stuff for years. I think I discovered it back in the mid-nineties when MAC was a teeny little West Village shop for those in the know and the drag queens who loved them. And, somehow, me.

When the black-clad sales woman told me it was the perfect color for me, she was right. And even now, 15 years later, even while I might experiment with something a little more bronze in the summer, or cheat on Prism in a taudry one-nighter involving a free sample of something with more shimmer, I always come back to my one true cheekbone-enhancing love.

I started thinking about how so few of my cosmetics endure past the first few applications, and let alone through multiple purchases. The way I see it, if you still love it after three years, despite changing trends and fads and It Colors of the week, it deserves a spot in the Perfect Cosmetic Hall of Fame.

My own tops:

1. MAC blush in Prism. So neutral and perfect, turns out its my mom's favorite too. And I'm old enough now that I'm hardly embarrassed by that statement at all.

2. MAC lip liner in Spice - It was painfully clear from the most hilarious comments on my last post about your most-hated beauty trends that that weird dark lip outline with a lighter lipstick is wrong in oh so many ways. Spice doesn't do that. It looks just like my lips, no matter what color ends up inside, and has for more than ten years. Spice pencil, I kees you. Mwa.

3. Estompe de Chanel concealer - Yes it's $34 but it lasts me a couple of years. It's the right shade, the right texture, and it's light enough that I don't feel like I'm wearing HEY LOOK AT THAT CHICK'S CONCEALER concealer. Key.

4. Maybelline Volume Express Turbo Boost Mascara - this one is cheating a little because I'm only on my second tube. But I tried it on a recommendation and um...love. Loooove. And I'm a cosmetics snob, as you might have noticed. But this stuff is so great, it's gotten me off a 10-year high end waterproof mascara kick and that's saying something.

I'd love to hear your favorite - what are the cosmetics that you will just die if they discontinue? What are the shades you realize you keep returning to no matter what wacky kabuki eye makeup they're showing on the runways? Don't our long-standing favorites deserve some kudos for getting us through the tough times?

I say yeah.

Bad gal eyeliner by Benefit is IT for me! I used to use the old fattie pencil version, but now they have this great waterproof version that is amazing.

Give me that and a tin of rosebud salve and I am sure I could not only survive on a desert island, but I could also start a whole new civilazation!

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

I would buy it on the name alone, although your reco helps a ton.

I've actually never dabbled with Benefit although I hear great things about it. Glad to have it back on the radar.

I love Benefit's products (both for the funky, vintage-style packaging and the contents), particularly High Beam, a "luminescent complexion enhancer", that I wear occasionally when I go out at night and want that glam factor. I also love their BADgal mascara; the large wand is a little scary, quite frankly, but it gives me big, thick lashes and stays on (and comes off) when I want it to.

Also a big fan of MAC -- I have the powder blush in Tenderling and I big puffy heart love Fluidline. I have it in the violet color. I love that the color itself is a little different, but not obviously so.

I never wore make up until I got married a year ago.  I was always afraid that I was giving into some marketing ploy that was telling me I wasn't good enough until I edited my looks. That was until I tried Brown's Blue Raspberry lipstick.  It's the only color I wear that doesn't make my teeth look yellow.  Guess that's a good reason to be addicted!

And I use Spice. It's awesome.

I have worn MAC #3 perfume for probably five years and I love it. I couldn't find it in its usual spot on the counter last time I went to buy some and had a minor panic attack. And I had no idea the description said "whipped with leather," even ( http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEG... ). Hee. My remaining MAC standby is lipstick in "O." ( http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEG... )

I'm one of the Maybelline Great Lash sheep. Love it. I also repeatedly buy L'Oreal Colour Riche in Sandstone ( http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/default.aspx... ) and I'm not even sure why.

If anyone loves a particular deep green (not metallic) eyeliner, let me know. I cheat on all of mine but I could possibly commit.

Poppy actually just wrote a great post on what to do if your favorite makeup is discontinued ( http://www.blogher.com/what-do-when-your-favorite-... ). MAC has a "last chance" section you might look into. I need to track down a few YSL lipstick colors myself. I think those clerks just have it in for me, and only sell me on the colors that are going away. Grrr.

I think that's why I gravitate to more natural colors. I can't mess it up thaaaaat much when I'm doing it one handed while puring cereal.

And I don't think I've ever tried a Mary Kay product. Will have to seek out one of those pink Caddys...

Though I only wear it once in a blue moon.... Urban Decay, the stuff that's like a Sharpie marker for your lips. No greasy feeling and it definitely stays on!  Why don't they have sharpie marker style eyeshadow too?

I tried, I really tried, to get over my addiction to C.O. Bigelow's tinted lip gloss, but nothing can beat it!! It's not sticky or greasy and the peppermint flavor really soothes my lips while looking just like a light gloss. I will be buying this stuff FOREVER!!

MaryKay: http://www.marykay.com/color/compactsapplicators/c... ( http://www.marykay.com/color/compactsapplicators/c... )

The lipstick never falls out and I can get everything done with a single stop. That and my Laura Mercier foundation in a tube (SPF of course).

Because if I can't put this stuff on in the dark with one hand on my computer, then it's no use to me.

MAC Studiofix - I feel weird if I don't have a compact floating around in my purse.

I use to be a big fan of their blushes, too, but every time I found one I liked they discontinued it. (Angel, Cheek...) I really wanted to like Prism, but it makes me look bruised.

I about flipped when a Clinique salesperson told me a few years ago that it had been discontinued. Turns out -- stupid salesperson -- that the store was out and that she thought she might get me to buy something else I didn't want if I believed her.

Almost Honey is pretty perfect in almost every way - the color is SO AWESOME - but I've found that Almost Lipstick is a little too dry for the winter which is why I like the new Butter Shine.

You know when you're evangelizing for a color you're a true fan, huh? I'll have to check it out - I haven't tried Clinique in ages.

I'm not that tied to any one brand or product but I do love my Mommy Makeup mineral makeup ( http://bit.ly/1ewklY ) Pretty n Polished Kit. I like the foundation powder, the concealer's the right color and the 3 in one eyeshadow. I actually went through one powder and concealer and had to get replacements which I've never done before since I usually abandon a product before that point.

I just bought a new lipstick that I love - Clinique's Color Surge Butter Shine Lipstick ( http://bit.ly/43KAQg ) in Perfect Plum. We're not picking out engagement rings yet but I can see this being my new fave lip color. It's semi-sheer and very moisturizing (the sales lady said it has shea butter in it) and the color's a great shimmery plum which I hear is an it color this season but very flattering on me regardless.

It's been said before - Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

My old boss turned me onto this, I've converted a few people, and I've gone through several tubes.  That's a record for me, since I tend to use makeup a few times, then lose it, then find it years later and throw it out.

My new favorite is Grapefruit Pulp lip gloss by Aveda which is a perfect color for my neurotic need for a neutral with a touch of pink.
