What are the Healthy Solutions for Joint Pain?
By KellyEverson on June 18, 2014
You have joint pain - in your knees, in your ankles, in your wrists, and in your hands. How can you solve your joint pain problems in a healthy way? Here are some suggestions you can try:
Knowing why your joints hurt is a must; if you have early onset osteoarthritis, you can treat it yourself, or with an alternative practitioner. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, or gout, you need to see a rheumatologist, but find one who is open to the idea of alternative medicine.
This one sounds easy, but in today's world, it's really hard to know what eating well involves. There are so many different opinions about what foods are good, what foods are bad, when you should eat what - it's enough to drive you mad. This is an area where you need to rely on your common sense, and don't just follow a diet plan because an allopathic practitioner says it's good for you, or because the government says this is the way you should eat. Everyone is an individual in terms of health; what works for Joe Average may not do you one bit of good, and what works for you may send the so-called experts into a tailspin. Research your diet, and determine the one that is best for you and your lifestyle. This is not a carte blanche for you to become a chip-devouring couch potato; this is a mandate for you to intelligently determine a diet that works for you.
Oh, there's that word again - exercise. It's a sad fact of life, but you really do have to exercise to be healthy. This isn't saying run right out and find yourself a gym or a personal trainer. You need both forms of exercise - aerobic and strength-training - to be healthy, but an energetic walk around the neighborhood two or three times a week is plenty of aerobic exercise for almost everybody; you can increase the length and frequency as your fitness level improves. Working the Nautilus is not necessary either; two or three days of light weight-lifting gives you the strength training to be a healthy individual. If your fitness level allows you to attend a gym or have a personal trainer, then go for it, but don't feel you have to do these things to be healthy.
This is an unexpected idea for most folks. Relaxing and reducing your stress level is a major step in being healthy. Take the time to unwind; if you have unused vacation time at the office, then use it. You don't have to go on a cruise, or visit a theme park or do any frenetic trips. Take a day and visit a state park. The hiking trails are awesome in most parks, and you'll get both your exercise and your relaxation at the same time, Take a picnic and a book, and just chill out. Mental health days are important for your health, so take them.
Try Some New Age Therapy
New-age is actually a misnomer; most of these techniques have been around for centuries. The new age music scene, however, is not that old. The therapies - yoga, mind-body relaxation techniques, massage, and aromatherapy - have stood the test of time. Any of these techniques will help you unwind and lose stress. New age music will aid all of these methods, providing a soothing backdrop as you practice your yoga or get a massage, or visualize a calming place in your mid.
Supplements are an effective form of treatment for many diseases and complaints. It's not necessary to get an over-the-counter NSAID to relieve your pain - you can find a natural joint pain supplement that will do the job just fine. You can also find supplements to treat a variety of diseases, and they will do so without the unpleasant side affects you find in the allopathic world. This being said, you need to keep caveat emptor firmly in mind as you move into the alternative world. There are many large companies making supplements who list a therapeutic dose on the bottle, but who don't deliver what they promise. It's necessary to find a knowledgeable person to steer you down the maze of products available, both in brick-and-mortar stores and online. Find a good alternative physician, a naturopath or osteopath, or a locally-owned and operated health food store. The staff at such a store will be knowledgeable about their stock, and about what supplement is good for what condition.
Live a Happy Life
Maintaining a positive attitude is one of the best things you can do to be healthy. Being upbeat will help you cope with pain and keep moving. The thing about joint pain is, if you stop moving, it's really hard to start it again. You need to keep moving, be involved in your life, and do the best you can to stay positive. It's a good thing.
