Unless you are living under a rock, you've seen this already: Tim Gunn is coming to BlogHer, and one lucky conference attendee will will a style consultation.
As someone who celebrates personal style, Tim wants to know what everyone is wearing to BlogHer. BlogHer attendees are encouraged to post a comment below and link to a photo (on their personal blogs) of the fashionable outfits they'll wear in Chicago. Every blogger who posts a comment and a link will automatically be entered to win a private style consultation with Tim Gunn in the Tide & Bounce Laundry Lounge on Saturday. We'll announce the winner on Thursday, July 23rd, so check back to see if you've won!
So what would you wear to meet Tim Gunn? Tim has suggested a few things -- a day dress, a classic shirt, a great pair of jeans. No matter what pieces you choose, make sure they flatter your specific shape and size.
If you're a pear shape -- carrying your weight through your hips and thighs -- opt for skirts and dresses with an A-line shape; look for jeans and trousers that fall straight from the widest part of your hip.
If you're an apple shape -- carrying your weight through your midsection -- look for ways to create a waist. A wide belt, or a jacket with princess seams, or a top with an empire waist will all give you curves where you don't necessarily have any.
If you're busty -- I don't have to explain that one, do I? -- start with a great bra, one that fits perfectly and properly. You don't want to shove your cleavage in everyone's face, but you also don't want your girls hanging down to your waist. Once you have the right bra, look for tops that will minimize the look of your breasts; structured blouses and tops are a good way to balance out a big bust.
If you're flat chested -- like me -- embellishment is your friend. Look for ruching or ruffles at the neckline, to create the illusion of ... well, if you're like me, of anything at all. I'm also in love with my padded push-up bra, because pretend cleavage is still cleavage.
If you're petite, steer clear of long hemlines. Maxi dresses and long bohemian skirts are not your friend; keep hemlines above the knee. But not too far above the knee -- skip the miniskirts, please.
No matter what your size or shape, think about proportion -- are your clothes properly proportioned for your body? Drowning in over-sized pieces doesn't make you look smaller, it actually makes you look bigger, which is why so many maxi dresses look so bad on so many women. (Aside about the maxi: Keep the line slim and simple and you virtually can't go wrong.)
So what are BlogHers planning to wear to meet Tim Gunn? Deb on the Rocks will be rollin' like a celebrity, while Trisha at MomDot will be rockin' the dresses. Corrin at Oh Hey, What's Up? has two cute outfits on deck for the conference; I really love that jacket.
So what are you wearing to BlogHer? Don't forget to enter to win a chance to meet Tim Gunn!

well..
I'm planning on wearing cotton dresses. I know it's hot in Chicago and I think these dresses will work well both day and night.
And holy cow I would love to meet Tim Gunn.
Here's a link to my blog post about what I'll be wearing.

Aaagh, the pressure!
Actually, I'm going to wear my usual age-inappropriate jeans, t-shirts and Converse high-tops. My new workout program hasn't had time to produce any results yet, so all I can do is try to choose the looser tees to deemphasize the muffintop. ;)
I'd probably wear
I'd probably wear this:

Not sure whether to laugh or cry?
However, I feel the need to point out that neither of these posts really tell who Tim Gunn is. And I don't have the slightest idea. Never heard of him. Not once. Clueless.
Surely I can't be the only woman coming to BlogHer who not only doesn't care about Tim Gunn but doesn't even know who he is?
And I don't think I'm completely lacking in style either (am I?)
