There just never seems to be enough time in the day. But even so, we still need to make time to sleep. In fact, getting a good night sleep is just what we need to be at or best during those precious waking hours.

The question is...

Are you getting enough sleep?

We all know that in order to be healthy (and happy) we need to get enough sleep. But still, most of us either don’t get enough sleep or our quality of sleep is lacking.

Sleep is a topic that a lot of BlogHers are blogging about. So, here is a potpourri of posts on sleep and how you can get enough of it. Enjoy.

From Think Positive Blog - Sleep Can Be Hard To Come By For Some...

Scientists tell us that sleep is crucial for mental and physical health. There is some evidence to suggest that during sleep, the body repairs and regenerates tissues, builds bone and muscle, and appears to strengthen the immune system. Sleep deprivation is linked to impaired memory, impaired thought processes, depression, decreased immune response, and high blood pressure. Most adults need around 7-8 hours of sleep per night to maintain proper health.

From Almost Frugal - 7 Easy Tips To Sleep Better Frugally...

Sleep is elusive for far too many. Even those who do not normally suffer from insomnia or sleep troubles may have occasional bouts with it. For the best rest possible, follow these tips for a good night’s rest, and an even better day to follow!

From Shrink To Fit - Key Ingredient: Sleep...

It's no secret that I don't like sleep. I feel like it is a major waste of time. I rarely turn out my light before 12:30 pm and have to get up at 6 am. I like resting (as most couch potatoes do) but the act of sleeping is something I have fought all my life. My mom used to beg me to go to bed when I was younger.

Well, last night I was extremely tired and began to doze while trying to watch a little TV. I fell asleep with my clothes on at 9:30 pm and woke up at 9 am today. Guess what? I felt fantastic! Alert, energized, and in a great mood. Hmmmmm, I thought to myself, how did my attitude change so quickly? What did I do different from the other nights of this week? Oh, I see...I got some sleep!!

From Living A Whole Life - Health Benefits of Sleep...

So the next time you consider staying up just one more hour when you know you should be hitting the sack. Do your body and your mind a favor and call it a night.

From The Juice - Sleep: A Good Night For A Good Morning...

One of the most frustrating things I experience is with what I call the "perfect bedtime setup." I've finished working hours before, haven't had any coffee or caffeine since the morning, have read my book, and I feel tired, but I still can't sleep. What's up with that?

This episode is devoted to the insomniacs (whether occasional or chronic) in the crowd who want to understand why sometimes we just can't sleep.

See the video here.

From Susan Bernard - Reclaiming the Morning...

The good news is that for the first time in years I've become a morning person again. It is an unbelievable feeling for me to awaken at 6:00 in the morning and feel great! It adds hours to my day. Jack (my dog) and I can take walks when the grass is dewy and the morning fog cools the air.

It is truly an extraordinary blessing, and I thank God each and every day for my recovery!

A new study suggests that a lack of sleep can even be associated with blood pressure problems.

From Middle-Age Sexy - The Importance of Sleep...

According to a story by Bloomberg, the adults participating in the study who got the least sleep were most apt to have higher blood pressure. For every hour less than eight of missed sleep, odds of developing the condition rose an average 37 percent over five years, said Kristen Knutson, the lead author. Skipping two hours sleep raised the blood pressure risk 86 percent.

From Menopause The Blog - The Effect of Poor Sleep Quality on Blood Pressure...

Sleep disturbances are common complaints of women going through the peri- and post- menopausal transitions and this and other studies have pointed out the consequences of not getting enough shut eye. If

I work in night shift and in the morning, I find if difficult to fall asleep or to have a deep sleep. most of teh time, I wake up at 2pm regardless of what time I sleep in the morning.

I am so not getting enough sleep. It's partly the fault of the baby, who's still waking 2-3 times per night. But I have to lay claim to my part, as well. I stay up late because I want some time to myself. I have two little kids and so I get very little peace in my days. The result, though, is that I am not getting enough rest.

My husband always makes fun of me because I can sleep so much. When I was pregnant 9 mos ago, I slept A LOT during the day and then again all night. Now I sleep 9 hours at night and usually take a 1-2 hour nap during the day while my baby is doing the same. I sometimes envy people who can get by on little sleep, but I just can't. I am blessed to fall asleep when my head hits the pillow and wake rested. I love sleep!!!

I definitely don't get enough sleep. There's so much to do in a day - sometimes I look at the clock and it's 10pm and I know I'm tired, but I still need to do more stuff. Before I know it, it's 2am!

I probably get around 5 hours each night and I know it's not enough.

Thank you for this post - hopefully it will inspire me to go to bed a little earlier tonight!

great tips, i'm not getting as much as i'd like right now just because the baby is going through a growth spurt & teething at the same time.  but i look forward again to the nights of straight sleep, you don't realize how nice that is until you don't have it for oh 6-7 years.
