What Books Are You Looking Forward To In 2010?

Welcome to a new year filled with new books. Just think of it, a whole new year filled with new releases and literary gems you haven't found yet.

I start off every year with a list of books that are musts on my To Be Read List. Here's a look at it. I'm cheating slightly with this one but I'm really looking forward to Laurie Perry's Home Is Where the Wine Is. You might know Laurie better as Crazy Aunt Purl. While the "official" release date for her book is January 4 her publisher put it up on their website early and you could order it before Christmas.

I can look forward to buying another installment in Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series this month when The Betrayal of the Blood Lily is released. And to keep us company between this release and the next in the Pink Carnation series, according to her blog she's set to release a book called The Mischief of the Mistletoe. It will feature Jane Austen but perhaps more exciting for Pink Carnation fans - Turnip! Turnip gets a book!

In March Sarah Addison Allen will be releasing her third book, The Girl Who Chased the Moon. In the past she's featured magical apple trees and book, this time it's wallpaper and cakes. And yes, it realize that sounds kind of nuts but the magic in her books is really quite charming.

In June the fourth book in Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series will be released. Yay girl spies!

September is looking to be a very good month. In September the second book in Diana Peterfreund's "killer unicorn" series will be released. In Ascendant Astrid if fully trained to kick unicorn butt, but starts to question if she should. Also in September, the yet to be named third book in Suzanne Collins Hunger Games series. And if I can believe Amazon (and I really, really hope I can) I should be reading Ami McKay's The Virgin Cure. Yay!

I asked my fellow Contributing Editors what they were looking forward to this year and this is what they told me:

Mir Kamin is looking forward her friend Joshilyn Jackson's latest book Backseat Saints. Mir wrote about Jackson's Between, Georgie years ago and set me on the path of reading her books, something for which I thank her mightily. You can also read Jackson's blog, Faster Than Kudzu.

Suzanne Reisman is looking forward to Jackson Taylor's The Blue Orchard. She not only was lucky enough to take a couple of writing courses from Jackson, but she also got to take a peek at a galley of the novel and says the writing is incredible.

Honeybeast has her eyes on sequels. In addition to the Hunger Games sequel, there's also The Girl with the Hornet's Nest the third book in Steig Larson's series, and The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag is the follow up to this year's The Sweetness At The Bottom Of the Pie. There's also a new series coming out from Jasper Fforde - Shades of Grey, which I've heard you might be able to find on shelves now even though it's official release date isn't until January 10.

avflox really wants to know what the world's libertine Catherine Millet has to be Jealous about.

And Britt Bravo is looking forward to Tranquilista: Mastering the Art of Enlightened Work and Mindful Play by Kimberly Wilson and Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It by Anna Lappe and Bill McKibben.

What new book releases are you looking forward to in 2010? I'd love to know.

I will not read any of my TBR pile until I have purchased and finish reading this book. The cover is amazing and Mrs. Ray is an awesome writter to boot.  I can't wait...well I kind of have to. March is the release date.  LOL

Thank you Franl for the recommendation!  To add a little detail, Stay For Lunch earned the  Independent Publisher's 2009 Gold IPPY Award for best Inspirational/Spiritual book.  Here is a brief glimpse of the memoir-

Meet Anne. Meet Francina. An unlikely pair brought together by a destiny driven moment on a hilly, curvy Atlanta road that changed both their lives unexpectedly. The unique friendship forged between the Midwestern transplant and the Southern matriarch, fifty years her senior, ended up spanning decades. Even with Anne s move back home to Wisconsin, they remained stalwart supports for one another. As Francina began to quietly shutter parts of her life, Anne juggled to keep up with a rapidly expanding family. Their connection was equal parts humor and love shared with the reader through Anne s easy story telling and Francina s artful letters. They were girlfriends helping each other navigate through life s twists and ultimate learned lessons.    www.pleasurablepausepress ( http://www.pleasurablepausepress ). com

It actually wasn't that link that was the problem, it was the link before it. Oops.

The Pink Carnation series is fun. And it doesn't have scary holds at the library either. ;-)

Chris Moore was on my list and I can't believe I forgot to put it on. I blame the cough syrup.

Since I am going back to school this year, my reading list will mainly consist of textbooks, but I'm looking forward to 2 new releases by my favorite author, Ted Dekker - Burn and The Bride Collector.  I also want to read a few things that have been on my list for a long time, like The Kite Runner and Julia Child's My Life in France.

Amazon has a popular pre-orders section ( http://www.amazon.com/Popular-Pre-orders-Books/b/r... ). You can browse by upcoming month or genre. Mmm.

The Fforde book was on the shelves last night at our local Borders. TW picked it up and said "put it on our reserve list" - it's already there.

I burned out during the summer last year. Mixing up what you are reading certainly helps. Good luck!

The Stephanie Plum series. It is slightly intimidating to start a series when there are so many books out already.

Sometime publishers have it set up so that you can get emailed when an author has a new book coming out. I'm pretty sure that Harper Collins does it.

I think Honeybeast mentioned that one to me as well.

You're going to a Jasper Fforde signing? Jealous!

I had a goal last year to read 50 books...I fell short at 36.  So again, I go with the goal to hit 50!  However, in pacing myself I vow to read one self improvement book followed by one fictional book...that way no burn out...I estimate...either way...every book it a gem...I am especially looking forward to Book #3 in the Hunger Games series!

I enjoy Lauren Willeg's Pink Carnation series too. Glad to hear she has a new one coming out.

I'm looking forward to Janet Evanovich's next book in her Stephanie Plum series. I'm not really sure when my favorite authors have books coming out most of the time.

I have a list of authors I like and constantly troll the library & Barnes and Noble for the newest books. I'm into mysteries, fantasy, and some science fiction.

The Melting Season by Jami Attenburg is the first that pops into my mind. While looking back over it on Amazon, I also just discovered Bloodroot by Amy Greene which is set in Appalachia and sounds absolutely right up my book-reading alley. Just pre-ordered the latter. (So thanks for making me look at books I had bookmarked! WIN!)

Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah sounds interesting though I'm wary for reasons I don't quite know.

And the one that I'm most why about being really excited about is Not My Daughter by Barbara Delinsky. I hate to admit that I really do like some of her books and, quite honestly, this one is something that sounds particularly compelling for me/my life/etc. It's about teenagers with a pregnancy pact. While I haven't yet seen a review that specifically mentions adoption (nor have I specifically gone looking), I am just guessing. I'd like to see how it is handled. It comes out on the 5th and I really should have just gone ahead and pre-ordered it as well as I don't want to wait for the library on this one.

Gee. Thanks for spending all my Amazon bucks. ;)

Well, I've started the year by reading my ARC of Elizabeth Kostova's The Swan Thieves (Hachette).  I think it officially releases in two weeks.  I've been waiting for her second book for a long time and I'm enjoying it.  It's certainly a different sort of book than The Historian.

I'm getting my copy of Jasper Fforde's Shades of Gray soon and hope to go to his reading and signing in a week.

I'm looking forward to June and the release of Captivity by Deborah Noyes (Unbridled Books).  It's a fiction about the spiritualist Fox sisters who I find fascinating.

And I'm also hoping that Apple really does put out a media tablet!  :)
