What To Do When You Get Your First Stretch Mark?

Women go to extreme measures to prevent them, but little do they know, it’s genetic! You either get them or you don’t. If you’re mother had stretch marks, theres a big chance that you’ll get them too. According to the American Academy of Dermatology,  about 90% of women will get them sometime after their sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. 

There’s no way to prevent them from happening, contrary to the market of creams and oils that claim they do. Don’t be fooled, they don’t. However, there are a few things you can do to help with your body’s ever growing belly (well at least for now).  It’s always a good idea to keep your skin hydrated with a rich lotion or cream, especially if it makes your skin feel better, look smoother and more toned, and helps the itchiness that can come with your growing belly. It also helps to keep your body hydrated with water, and of course that’s also good for the little bambino!

But when you’ve drank all the water and applied all the lotions in the house and that first stretch mark appears, what do you do?

1) Cry: Yes, just get it out. It’s apart of the process. I got three at once and was totally devastated, even though I knew that it was inevitable. It’s not superficial or vain, it’s just the realization that you have officially acquired a new mark on your body that will be with you for the rest of your life. Change is good, but it’s uncomfortable; so don’t let anyone take away your moment to say goodbye to the belly you’ve known for all your life and begin to love the one you’ll have once the baby arrives.
