What does it mean to have a fulfilling day: Laugh, Cry, think... Jim Valvano talking about life at shelter

Today lets start with a word from a basketball coach:

"If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special."  That is from Jim Valvano, a college coach that died of cancer.

If  you are a sports fan you probably know the story and know the quote.  Why is it in a blog about shelter dogs reflection on life?

Because the shelter is a place that you can go everyday and get the laughter, the joy, the intellectual stimulation and the crying to make your day fulfilling.

It is true.  Go to any good shelter (at some point I will define what I mean by good) and visit the animals, talk to volunteers or staff to get funny stories, look in eyes of animals and get sadness but also hope, watch dogs or cats go to new homes and the joy the humans have about their new family member.....  Every emotion I have ever had could also be found at the shelter.

We will discuss more on this theme throughout this blog's future.
