What Does Your Spiritual Reflection Look Like?
I
Corinthians 13:12, Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror,
but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know
now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything
completely, just as God now knows me completely.
James 1:22- 24,
Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are
anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on
what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance
in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they
are, what they look like.
Are
you one of those people who glance in your spiritual mirror and then
turn and walk away, not remembering what you've seen? Has God
established your spiritual identity? Do you reflect Him? We can hear
the Word, but never act upon it. When we do this, it's the same as
looking in a mirror and not remembering our spiritual identity. If we
are truly grounded in the Word, then we are grounded in our true
spiritual identity.
Many
of us try to find our identity in other things, instead of God. We try
to base our identity upon what we do. A good way to tell what a
person's identity is based in is to observe what they are consumed with.
What is it that consumes their lives? What do they spend most of their
time doing? What is their day based around? Is it God or is it the
world? We can attempt to fool ourselves all we want to and make as many
excuses as we can think of, but whatever consumes our lives, is truly
what our identity is based within. That's just the solid facts.
Do you know we can make idols out of worldly ambitions? An idol is anything that takes precedence
over God in our lives. It isn't just objects ... it can also be people.
What is your little part of the world consumed with? Now please don't
misunderstand, we should love our family, love our children, love what
we do and always be ready to help when we can. But if you really sat
down and took inventory of your life ... what does the majority of your life consist of? What consumes the major portion of your life? It's an important question for every one of us to ask ourselves.
I
sat down and took inventory of my own life and it made me look at some
things in my life with a whole different perspective. I asked God to
show me where my own idols were. It's not an easy task to accept
either. When God shows us something, He does it for a purpose and a
reason, in order to help us make the changes necessary to move in to a
closer relationship with Him. It also takes humility to see your own
faults.
I
had to do some soul searching in myself and get rid of all the things
that hindered my walk with God. Trust me, I have my share of
hindrances! See, we can get so caught up with the things of this world,
that we so easily lose sight of our spiritual identity. We can place
other things and people before God because we can tangibly touch and
feel the things that surround our physical world. It's a much harder
thing to lose sight of what we see, but not so hard of a task to lose
sight of what we don't see with the natural eye.
The
above Scripture tells us not to be fooled in to thinking that we are
listeners, when we are anything but that, because we fail to act upon
the Word, but allow it to go in one ear and out the other. We don't
retain it and mediate upon it. Remember, God knows you completely. No
matter how well you accomplish the task of fooling others around you,
you will never succeed in fooling God. He knows you much deeper than
anyone else, even your spouse.
Yes,
He knows us inside and out! He sees our failures, He sees our pride,
and He sees our stubbornness. He also sees any hidden jealousy we hold
towards another person. My advice? Get rid of all the things that weigh
you down spiritually and walk on the lighter side. Give all those yokes
to God and experience what the Bible calls "giving Him your yoke and
taking on
