what gives me strength
By cookingupastorm on December 29, 2012
What gives me strength during this time? That is hard to explain.
I moved to Ocean County to be near my "person". Then all of the sudden I lost everything, personal items, furniture, memories, and my cat. She refused to come out of hiding and bolted during the evacuations - guessing it was the cat carrier in the living room.
A few days after the storm I felt lost, answerless, and numb. Those who are close to me always boast that I am SO STRONG. Not this time, I was defeated physically and mentally. I decided to yell at myself to "Snap out of it" hoping that would work.
Then I realized all the people who had it way worse than I did. I thought of the elderly who had to figure out how to rebuild, those with no where to go, and those that are dealing with the death of loved ones caused by the storm. See I was lucky, I was alive, we evacuated a day early as the water was EVERYWHERE in Ortley and he lived in Brick and was up to the dock on the lagoon. It wasnt only about us, my boyfriend has 3 wonderful sons who were very scared, and we have two huge fur babies (Laddie and Reeses) that all needed to be out of harms way.
With both homes destroyed we were lucky to move on a rental about 10 miles south of where we were --I call it the "wood". So I took all my weakness and threw it out. I had to get this horrid rental in order and make it a "home". And it is--not perfect but warm and safe.
During this time too I decided to start using my talents in cooking and make everyone happy with fun and new ideas for dinner nightly. I really have surprised myself too. I love cooking as my friends and family know. Its scientific, creative, and creates smiles...three things I love to do and am passionate about.
So Kids Only Catering was born from a tragic act of nature...it is something we all have fun with and want to share with kids and grown ups all over. Check us out www.kidsonlycatering.com
So I will be #cookingupastorm and hoping this takes off (horrible plug i know!). Most importantly enjoying what I am doing..and bringing smiles to many faces.
