What I learned folding 250 bags

A fat lot of good it did me to get English and journalism degrees. I majored in words but somehow never learned the difference between luminaria and luminary.

Not until this past week when I folded 250 bags for the annual luminaria display in our neighborhood.

Luminaria: votive candles placed in decorative paper bags weighted with sand that sit in rows along a walkway or driveway, especially during the holidays. Freedictionary.com tells me the custom originated in New Mexico where the "Pueblo peoples" built small bonfires outside homes on Christmas Eve.

Luminary:  a celestial object that gives light, a person of achievement or someone who inspires others.

Lesson learned. Think I can get a refund on my overpriced, clearly deficient education?
