What is Placeblogging?

Due to popular demand we've launched this forum to discuss "Placeblogging" and "Placebloggers". Sharing your personal "Placeblogging" content is also perfectly acceptable.

But first, you might want to know what "Placeblogging" is (and yes I'll drop the "" right now.)

Lisa wWilliams and the crew of Placeblogger says:

A placeblog is an act of sustained attention to a particular place over time
It can be done by one person, a defined group of people, or in a way that’s open to community contribution
It’s not a newspaper, though it may contain random acts of journalism
It’s about the lived experience of a place

Not exclusively, but yes.

I blog a LOT about Seattle. A LOT. Events, culture, photos of the city, etc... there are LOTS of us, too, Seattle bloggers.

Nerd's Eye View

I forgot you were from Seattle!

I would have totally used a Blogher photo of your for the conference Scavenger Hunt. (Because clearly it's all about me. ; ) )

I've never been to Seattle but my friend who moved there from Ohio when I came home to Maryland loves it.

Seattle Placeblogging

I would love to live in a community that had a lot of bloggers and more specifically more placebloggers. But I'm not moving to Seattle! ;-)

Some good sites to check out about
placeblogging

Check out http://del.icio.us/Grey_Consulting/placeblogger

I'll be adding more relevant sites as I find them. If you find them useful, you can subscribe via RSS.

I'm working with my local community (as in neighborhood) in building a placeblog. I'll be posting our experiences.

I feel like a placeblogger

The last two blog posts I've written have been about life in the number one ranked town in the US of A. Yes I live here and no I don' t know how anyone could decide this is the best place to live. Particularly right now.

Hopefully tomorrow I can blog something GOOD about my town to off-set the last two posts.

I (think) I'm a place blogger! :)

www.megavegalicious.com

Hi, I am very new at blogging, and also very new at living in America. I have just developed a blog about Las Vegas, more like a turist guide, but also for locals (the posts aren't comercial, just informative in an informal way, trying to be fun and funny).
I was wondering, would it be consnidered placeblogging?
Thanks

Charleston Placeblogging

I expect I've been a Charleston, SC placeblogger for years. Folks who drop by Walk this Way regularly are going to find everything looks familiar by the time they actually get to Charleston.

Charleston!

Did you know I'm originally from Charleston? And I do a good bit of Charleston blogging myself - ok not a good bit, but several times a year since my oldest daughter is living there now - along with my ex husband's family, my brother, and my father.

I don't think I've read your blog before, but I'm on my way.

wish i were...

I am not a placeblogger, though I aspire to incorporate placeblogging into my website. I currently live in Washington DC, and we have an active 'ist (DCist), as well as the more politically focused Wonkette and the Washington Post Going Out Gurus. It certainly doesn't seem like there's any void to be filled. Now I moved from Denver, and I definitely think that they could use a placeblogger or two. Still, I talk about my experiences of living in DC a fair bit.

Maybe a category?

I'e been toying with the idea of a Gainesville "Placeblogging" category for my blog. Something like this post might go there: http://flamingohouse.net/?p=1499

Maybe something like that would work for your blog?

DC too!

hi all and raxxq, specificaly. I'm a DC'er, too; while I agree there's no shortage of resources out there (DCblogs, dctraveler, dcmetroblog, wpblog etc etc., besides the ones you mention), I also agree that there's always room for more. I like the idea of the category, Denise. Hmm, I'm noticing that I'm liking a LOT of what you have to say.

Another thing I've started doing is using my blogroll (bottom of the page, in my case) to specifically list fellow dc'ers. guess who's about to get added there! ;)

That's a good idea

I've seen other blogs who have location specific sections of their blog lists. I should work on that myself, when I move to the Chicago area this summer.

And I agree with you, a place like DC needs as many local voices blogging "local" as it can get.

Stapleton

I'm a placeblogger!

I'm a stay-at-home mom who just moved to Stapleton -- the incredibly well-designed urban-suburb of Denver. If you are young, have kids under 5 and either a black lab or golden retriever, this is the neighborhood for you. What happens in Stapleton... well, you know how the rest goes.

My partner's mom and sisters live in Lakewood, so not super far from you. I'll be subscribing to your blog for insight into the area.

I never heard about

I never heard about "Placeblogging" before, and I think in my country no one know about that term. I live in Indonesia, may be because eglish is not main language here. Thank for this new information to me.

Baby First Year

By definition...

In a way, I am a placeblogger, but also a frequent traveller. I live in Montreal, and my experiences are very particular to the multicultral, multilingual city, but I also write about what it was like to grow up in a town of fewer than 250 people in Nova Scotia, and then again about the incredible countries I've visited. I am a placeblogger, but not a monogamous one :)

That's why I call my blog:

All Over the Place

St Pete - no longer God's Waiting Room (or is
it?)

This is my placeblogging contribution to the world. Photography-based, with a little culture and history thrown in. Enjoy.

Sharing this one with my daughter

Who is considering going to Eckerd next year. (Mostly because she loves the Dali museum. lol)

Northern California is quite a large place

Now I know a little about place blogging.  Thank you very much for informing me of a new term.

I suppose my What a Trip blog qualifies as place blogging as the subtitle to my blog, Travels from Northern California, is my home base.

Northern California is quite a large place, so I'll narrow down my favorities.  Carmel is my happy place.  I love the ocean and watching the sea otters roll and play in the waves.  Wine country, Livermore, Napa, Sonoma, offer all of my favorite things; B&B's, fine dining, wine drinking and beautiful scenery.  Lake Tahoe is a great place for a long weekend.  The lake front houses in Rubicon Bay by Tehama are simply amazing, as are the antique Chris Craft wooden boats that ply the blue waters.

Placeblogging about Missions

I guess I will be doing that soon.  I am leaving to go on a mission trip to kazakhstan on June 20th.

I should be placeblogging for NOLA

But so far I haven't blogged much about my hometown since I returned and since I started my current blog. New Orleans, La., is a place of interest to many people, but so much goes on here and there are so many issues since Katrina that I get overwhelmed. I feel like I can't go deep enough and remain within reasonable blog post lengths.

I think I'll check out some other bloggers who identify themselves as placebloggers to get some ideas.

Nordette Adams is a Contributing Editor with BlogHer.com whose personal blog is at this link.

You should do it, Nordette

I'd read it. And with BlogHer's Reach Out Tour coming to NOLA, I bet a lot of BlogHer's would check it out as the tour date approaches.

I Learned Something New Today

I have learned something new today. I never knew about "placeblogging". I am fairly new to blogging and I am still learning new things everyday. My blog is mostly about my day to day experiences as an expat here in England. But after hearing about placeblogging, I think that I have done it sometimes without knowing it as I write sometimes about different places that I go to here in southwestern England and other areas. Thanks for this great new information about other options in blogging.

I blog about Melbourne,

I blog about Melbourne, Australia - not as often as my other blogs.  And when we travel I blog about the places we go to and put up lots of photos on my family blog.

I sorta think I'm a placeblogger

I am blogging on my life in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I came to Honduras about a year ago, and I can't seem to leave. Not because I can't afford the plane ticket, but I got hooked on this place. I also write about missions, social justice, and stuff. When I am in New Orleans, I write about the food, the alligators, the climate, and anthing else going on in the Big Easy.
