I am so releived that I've finished my book, Bargaining for Our Lives, and yet I'm still not quite done. I was planning to launch the book and 2010 at the same time, but I wanted to be able to offer hard copies of my book in addition to the eBook and Book on CD...Amazon thought differently. Apparently my file does not "comply".
So while I plug away trying to make my book Amazon-worthy and putting off my big book announcement yet again I'm also using this time to reflect on where I've been (all that's transpired to bring me to where I am now) as well as looking forward to where I want to go.
I thought I'd have a little fun with this, drudging up old memories of mine that might surprise you and some of my goals for the future. Here's some stuff you might never have known about me otherwise:
1. I was a band-geek-jock in high school. I played the tenor saxophone in the Stonewall Jackson High School marching band (proudly) and spent my autumns playing tennis (2nd seed) and my springs playing softball (1st base) for the school. And I loved every minute of it.
2. I started weight training with a program called Super Slow but had to quit because my trainer was just too tempting. It's hard to get buff when you're trying to act all feminine and cute.
3. You would think from these first two revelations that I'm in really great shape. Well, I am now - thanks to Jazzercise and great friends, but it took me 8 years after giving birth to my youngest to even come close to shedding the pounds I put on while pregnant with him. (Here's another startler: I weighed over 200 pounds with each of my pregnancies. Yikes!)
4. My first official (ok, self-appointed) writing job was a newsletter I put out called Jennifer's Journals, which I wrote, printed, copied and distributed while at work as a kitchen designer. Yes, I'm a star employee! My bosses didn't seem to mind until I started inspiring all of the other employees (through the newsletter) to fight for their rights at work. The publication died very quickly.
5. College was probably the most boring time in my life, most likely because I had no career goals and bad study habits. I'm proud of my degree in Business Management from GMU, but if I had it to do all over again I would have studied liberal arts and communications at Mary Washington - it's so pretty there!
So, where am I headed now? I can't be sure, but here are some of the goals on my wish list:
1. By the end of 2010 I'd like to have sold thousands upon thousands of my first book, become an established synidcated columnist and be nearly finished with writing my 2nd book (tentatively titled: How to Live Like a Princess w/o Working Like a Dog).
2. I want to learn how to make time for the arts and crafts I loved to do but have neglected like sewing, making photo/memory albums and framed art.
3. I need to wean myself from my computer. My hubby keeps telling me that my eyes are becoming square, unfortunately I think the rest of me is getting that way, too. I spend so much time on here that I don't know what to do when I'm not. I wind up standing over my husband, longingly, while he sits at the computer. (He calls it "hovering". I call it "addiction".)
4. I desperately long to turn every patch of grass and weeds on my property into a luscious garden. Unfortunately I'm not that good of a gardener and 20 acres is way too much to keep up with. Fortunately, my husband and boys like helping, so maybe at least we can expand the current garden to double its size or so to satisfy us.
5. And my number 1 goal (yeah, I know - it says 5. but really it's what I want most of all) is to have my work become so sought after that I make enough money so that we can finally build that house we've been planning on for the past 10 years - without a mortgage! (Oh, yeah, and have no other debts at all, too!)
Your turn. Tell me: where have you been, how did you get here and where are you going? Hop on over to my site: www.JenniferHeyns.blogspot.com and leave me a comment!
