Think back to your earliest childhood holiday memories.  Chances are excellent that some sort of delicious dinner or dish is associated with the event.  I come from a large family and my mom always used to make 6 or 7 pies for Thanksgiving.  For me, the holidays are all about the smell of cinnamon and pies bubbling in the oven.

It's the perfect time to talk about food, now that BlogHer Food is making its first appearance in the comScore monthly traffic measurement report.  The BlogHer Food channel is now visible to the public in comScore, and it ranks in the top 10 for the food category.  With 7.3 million unique visitors in October 2011, BlogHer Food is the sixth largest Food network online in the U.S. Congratulations, BlogHer Food!

To honor the BlogHer Food traffic triumph and all of our many food bloggers, we will give this week's poll a culinary theme.  Tell us about your favorite holiday food recipe or dish.  We want to know what's going to be for dinner in your house as we approach the holiday season. Please leave a recipe or a link to your food blog in the comments.

I've come back to hog some more time on your blog, Jane, but I wanted to also share that hubby and plan to bone a turkey again this year (the familia loves it!), stuff it with homemade olive/garlic/rosemary stuffing, and lastly puff-pastry the turkey. Obviously the turkey is the star of the show. And still our son wants to have "Stove Top Stuffing" next to this culinary Mona Lisa. Some people simply have no taste. LOL!

I'm partial to potato side dishes for Thanksgiving but my family and friends rave about two stuffings I've made - Bacon, Apple & Fennel and Sausage-Leek Corn Bread. By Cider Bourbon-Glazed turkey ain't bad either!

Stuffed chicken, turkey isn't very popular here.

For those of you who love stuffing for the holidays, you need to try the

Hallacas [ay-YAH-kahs] it symbolizes Christmas for Venezuelans.

Delicious meaty morsals are surrounded by a tender dough, then steamed to perfection in colorful banana leaves. If you are fortunate to have access to these large, beautiful banana leaves, plan on using them for truly authentic results. Yummy!

What is the "holiday"? It's okay to give it a name like Christmas or Thanksgiving. Or if it is truly any "holiday" food then I would say ribs on the grill on the 4th of July. Easter it's candied malt balls. Thanksgiving - the turkey hands done. For Christmas it's my homemade chocolates.

Looking a little further down the road, what about Christmas cookies? Anybody have a favorite holiday cookie that they can't live without? I learned how to make chocolate truffles last year, and frankly they are easier than cookies to assemble, plus people get more impressed if you roll them in cocoa powder. Also -- can somebody please tell me if a cake ball is a cookie, a candy or none of the above?

For as long as I can remember, a cake ball has been considered a cookie. If this is wrong, I'd like to be corrected, please. (Smile!) Jane Collins To answer your other question, Jane: since my husband is half Norwegian (the other half is German), his family brought back a family recipe for making "sancagas," very similar to shortbread and butter cookies. We have tried to make them every year, and it helps to have an assembly line made up of family. :)

Sancagas sound very much like my family recipe passed down from my Swedish grandmother. We called them "Sandies" and now I wonder if the original name was Sancagas! Very light, buttery cookie that is rolled into finger shapes and then after they come out of the oven, dusted with confectionary sugar. Some people make them in balls.

The dough for sancagas are pressed into special cookie molds (his sister ordered them from Norway), carefully pressed to make a very thin and light cookie. But once you start eating them, you can't stop. They melt in your mouth like butter. Ahh! Jane Collins

So true! My mom's stuffing is a family favorite! We joke that my sister-in-law married my brother just for holiday access to the stuffing. I'm all about the rolls, though. Made the same way since my great-grandmother. Drool-worthy.

This Thanksgiving I'll be making my Mushroom Risotto with Sundried Tomatoes. I made it last year for Christmas and even those at the table who weren't vegan, vegetarian or gluten free loved it. Enjoy! http://www.theadirondackchick.com/2010/12/mushroom...

Just yesterday my mother (who is from El Salvador) was telling me that she remembers her mother stuffing turkey with rice and black beans. I plan to surprise her with that for this years Thanksgiving. But I think I will add sausage meat too. That should pair very delicious together!

I will probably share this new recipe on BlogHer, in honor of my mother's favorite childhood memories. Foods from El Salvador!

It's amazing how many different kinds of stuffing there are. My brother-in-law Nguyen is from Vietnam and he makes the most incredible turkey stuffing that involves sausage, water chestnuts and rice noodles. We flip over it every year. Your mom's black bean stuffing sounds awesome!

Wow! Your brother in-law's stuffing sounds very yummy! I am one that is open to trying new recipes, and this calls my attention too! Jane Collins
