There are lots of people who are ready for change in the church. Some have quit the church entirely because of the lack of authentic living in the church. They are many bloggers who are looking at the church, and expressing new ideas for our liturgy, our lives, and our communities.
One blogging community that discusses the direction of the church is Emergent Village. They feature a number of writers who offer commentary on many, many things in the church. The latest entry is about Salvation on the Small Screen. The author is publishing a book based upon her 24 hour marathon of watching Christan TV. Sounds scary, doesn't it?
One of my all-time favorite musicians and authors is David Ruis. His latest blog entry is "Keeping it Real" at his site. Here is a sample from his blog:
The last week or so I have found myself processing a lot with people about thdesire for a faith that is “real” ... the need for an expression ofchristianity that is not religious NOR escapist and that brings true perspectivein life. I don’t think the desire is to have all the answers ... just something real.
At David's site, you can listen to excerpts from his new CD , "When Justice Shines."
A blog that resonates within me very strongly is The Carnival in My Head by Kathy Escobar. She writes about church and social advocacy issues. She is part of a church in Denver called The Refuge. One of her more popular posts is Make Advocates, Not Buildings. Kathy writes that our passion in life should be directed toward people, not buildings. . Sometimes, we need to invest ourselves in the lives of those in need. By the way, Kathy uses a stream of consciousness style of writing with no capital letters. Here is an excerpt:
but i’m not afraid to say, i think churches should be cultivating advocatesinstead of building buildings. so what would that look like? it always, always, always starts with relationship. friends don’t let their friends do hard thingsalone. period. without relationship, advocacy just can’t happen. this is why iam so passionate about incarnational relationships–in the flesh, face to face, heart to heart. this means we have to invest deeply in the lives of each otherso that we know when someone actually needs help, someone to stick up for them alittle extra for a season.
I hope you enjoy digging into a few new blogs about
the emerging church.
