What's in my BirchBox | January 2014 Edition
By briony skerjance on January 28, 2014
It's that time again... This month my Birchbox was lacking one very important thing, a makeup item. Every other box I've received has had either a lip gloss, chap stick, chubby stick, etc. I get the most excited about the makeup in my boxes, so my initial reaction to this months box wasn't really a happy one. But, after trying out a few of the items I can say that while it wasn't my favorite box, it definitely wasn't a huge disappointment.
Ahmad Teas Assorted Teas
I've never been much of a tea drinker, that being said, I am looking to cut back on my Starbucks visits so I was actually excited I got these samples in my box this month. So far, I've tried the Apricot Sunrise and I really liked it. It has a bit of sweetness to it, but isn't overwhelming. The tea itself is smooth, not too bitter. A nice morning substitute.
Nail Rock Sequin
Textured nails are really in at the moment. This is an option for those of us who may be a little creatively impaired in the nail art department. The application is very simple. I put a clean coat of my base nail polish on, let it dry, put two coats of the clear polish they provide, dip your nail into the glitter, lightly brush off all the excess and then let it dry for about 15min. I put this on my nail last week, just to try it out before I wrote about it, and it is still going strong. After it dried none of the glitter has fallen off, that was my biggest concern. I can't say that I will do all of my nails like this but it is fun for an accent nail every once in a while. The brand has other color options, as well as glitter sizes if you want to go the more neutral route.
100% Pure Hand Buttercream
There are some lovely things I can say about the 100% Pure Brand, I've tried a few of their products in the past and I've been a fan. However, I can't really say I am a fan of this Buttercream. The texture is nice and it doesn't feel greasy, but the scent is just way too over powering. I just put a tiny bit on my hand to swatch it and after a few minutes it was giving me a headache. I do want to put out there, that I am not a lover of strong floral scents. I tend to keep things warm and light in the scent department. I am pretty sure if this lotion came in a coconut scent or even a citrus scent I would probably like it a lot more. If you like the scent of lavender, this product is for you.
Fekkai Brilliant Glossy Creme
When I first looked in my box and saw this, I was not too geeked. Since my haircut I haven't really been using much product in my hair, which is a fact I love. I wasn't excited because I didn't think I would ever use this product. However, a few days ago we were visited with some midday showers and my hair was looking a little on the puffier side, so I thought why not give it a try. I have to say I am very impressed, the creme is very light and doesn't weigh my curls down. It definitely helps tame the frizz and it leaves your hair looking shiny and healthy. It isn't a product I need every day but it is definitely a great solution for my Florida hair emergencies.
Paula's Choice Resist Serum
I haven't tried this product yet. To be honest, I haven't really explored much in the anti-aging product market yet. I can tell you, just from swatching it on the back of my hand, that it feels very smooth but leaves a matte finish. It blends in well and doesn't leave any kind of residue. Apparently this formula was made with oily skin in mind. It will help you battle over sized pores and wrinkles.
