What's Your New Adventure This Year?

Last weekend I went river rafting for the first time. In the wilderness of Montana on the Madison River there isn’t any cell phone coverage, and we weren’t allowed to bring distracting cameras.

Being Fearless

Holding scary thoughts at bay, I screwed up my courage and was “game on” and “all in”.  This was my new adventure.  Something I’d never done that I wanted to try.  With my niece Alex at the helm as our professional guide, I felt physically ready and fearless about taking on class 4 white water rapids. Alex yelled, “forward!” and away we paddled into the Kitchen Sink Rapid.

In this environment I couldn’t keep up on the news about whether Diana Nyad had begun her long distance swim between Cuba and Key West.  30 years after swimming from The Bahamas to Florida, the 61-year-old athlete came out of retirement for a courageous and new adventure of her own.

60 Is The New 40

We now know that Diana’s journey ended after 29 hours in the water.  29 hours!  And, even though Diana didn’t make it to her end goal, she inspired people everywhere to believe that 60 is the new 40.  That by keeping ourselves  physically active, then much is possible in other parts of our lives, too.

I know it worked for me.  I’m already dreaming about my return visit to Montana.  Meanwhile, I’m hitting the gym –

If I can do it, you can, too!
