I've been doing a lot of research lately on activities and programs in my local area that are geared towards kids. In large part, this is because I've been doing a job that involves listing such things as a resource for parents, although I'd have been doing it regardless. This is because my son gets horrible cabin fever if I don't engage him in activities outside the home, and the more antsy and wound up he gets, the less my sanity holds together. I'm sure you would have guessed it, but 99% of my research is done online. I don't use community fliers, mailings, magazines, or phone to find out what's going on for kids in my area. In fact, I got a magazine about "fun family outings" in my state in the mailbox recently (unsolicited) and I literally laughed out loud. There may have even been a snort.
I can think of a handful of websites I go to right away when I want to choose something to do with my son in town, but beyond occasional word-of-mouth from friends, that's my only go to for this kind of thing. Is this the same kind of thing you do, or am I missing out by using only this kind of approach? And what are your go-to web sites for this kind of information?
