When do you consider singing the national anthem unpatriotic?

BlogHer's Maria Niles has a terrific wrap-up of Jazz Singer Rene Marie's decision to sing the black national anthem at Denver's mayoral state of the city speech yesterday, including a YouTube clip of the performance and the fact that presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama has now been asked to comment on the jazz singer's decision. It's a great conversation - join us!

Ask Obama

Why is it that we feel compelled to ask Obama what his opinion is on the matter? Why not ask McCain? I would hate to think that with every issue involving race that it  has to be referred back to Obama. Is he the only biracial person in the country with an opinion? We need to move on.

I Remember When They Did This To Jesse

Every frigging issue, no matter if it was warranted to ask Jesse or not the media ran to him for his response. To a far lesser extent Sharpton too, although he rarely waited to be asked.

Myopic persistence of vision, mainstream media style. One of the many reasons traditional media is fading into the sunset.

Turning a presidential candidate into a spokesman for an entire race is already tired!
