==UPDATE: OK, the poll has been closed. With thousands of votes between the post-conference survey and this poll, I think we're all set. Thanks you so much everyone, not only for your votes, but also for the awesome civic pride on display in these comments :)
The leading contenders are:
Philadelphia
Portland
St. Louis
This is what happens next: We try to find a venue. Our needs are pretty specific...large enough to hold the conference and the sleeping rooms under one roof (we've heard you that you much prefer that), affordable room rates, calendar availability of course, Wifi capabilities, capacity for exhibitors and sponsors...the basics any conference of our size needs.
Stay tuned...as I said, we hope to announce before the end of the month.
Thanks again!
========================================
I've heard a lot of rumbling out there wondering where BlogHer '09 will be. Well, just like last year, we're going to poll the community. We included the below poll in the post-conference survey for attendees, but we want to make sure those of you who didn't attend can also weigh in.
Please do take the poll and let us know which city is your #1 choice for the BlogHer '09 event in July 2009. And feel free to add it to your site, so your readers can vote too.
Some things we bear in mind that you might want to too:
-Smaller cities and towns are often cheaper to be in, but more expensive to get to
-Same goes for how long it takes to get somewhere...is the city a hub, or will most people have to take multiple flights?
-It's July, so weather is definitely a factor
-We discovered last year that Las Vegas is only cheap during the week. On the weekends it's wildly expensive. So a vote for Vegas is a vote for considering changing the conference to be mid-week!
Finally, after you take this poll the poll will collapse and not let you take it again. Sorry, one vote only, please :)
We hope to make a decision before the month is out, so vote away!!

BlogHer in Vegas
Okay, I'm selfish. I want the conference to be in Vegas because I live there. The heat is beastly in July, though. The best things are that it's a one-hop from almost anywhere and there are lots and lots of hotel rooms. The bad news is all that crap about "dry heat" is exactly that. Hot is hot. But if you come here, I'll make sure you have a good time!
Denver is Fabulous!
I'm selfish too - but we've got a great city (which is why the DNC chose to come here this year in August, no less!!) so we like showing it off!
I love Vegas too @Vegas Shopper - and I got married there in July 12 yrs ago - it's hot, but that's what A/C is for! :)
Either way, I'll be wherever y'all are... I'm already ready for BlogHer 09!!

I voted and I posted it on my blog - note to others if you vote here before putting it on your blog, you will not see the survey only the thanks for voting.
Atlanta...
Because there is soemthing stunningly beautiful about the city!
Love,
Babz
Please come back east!
I voted for NYC, but anywhere northeast would be awesome - NYC, Philly, Boston, Montreal, Ottawa - OK, I know the last two are but pipe dreams :) Although a Canadian Reach Out stop next year would be fantastic, if there is to be such a thing.
If northeast is right out, then my second vote is for the SF bay area.

East, East, East!
C'mon people - it's SO time for an East Coast BlogHer!!!

I agree: East Coast!
What so wrong with the East people? ;-)
I voted Atlanta because I can drive there, but it would be a neat excuse to go to NY!

I wouldn't mind Atlanta or New York
But I'd really like a SoCal event. Los Angeles is my hometown, and I haven't been back in years. It'd be perfect.
Actually, I'm completely indecisive because I loved San Francisco and I wouldn't mind seeing it there again as well.

St. Louis is the best of everything! Big city fun; small town hospitality! [Plus it's close to home.]

I love NY
And it's close to home.
I'm surprised there's no Canadian city on the list - hopefully there'll be a Reach Out in Toornto or Montreal...

Yes, that's a definite probability
...and would depend on where the annual event ends up being (so it can be geographically different, i.e. not SF and Vancouver or NYC and MOntreal.)

Minneapolis?
We're a hub, the weather isn't all that bad, there are lots of fun things for families to do as well. And I could take the bus!
East coast! East coast!
I voted Philly, but NYC or Atlanta would be great too. The east coast needs it's share of BlogHer love.
Come visit my little zoo! Just please don't feed the animals or tap on the glass. http://gavmenagerie.blogspot.com/

We have lots of bloggers on the East coast too! Chicago hosted in 07, so the Midwest has had a shot. Give the East Coast a chance!

Philly makes sense!
Philly would be a great choice!
It's east coast (yaay). It's also an airport hub - with a great train station. It's in the middle of DC and NY, so it's central but much, much cheaper. Great restaurants, wonderful hotels, good shopping. The convention center is right in the middle of the city - and it's very walkable.
It's a wonderful place to visit... I should know. I came up for grad school, paid out of state tuition because I had no intentions of staying - and then couldn't bear the thought of leaving.

Another vote for Philly!
I just went to another conference in Philly and it was great! The convention center is a really good venue, but the best thing about it is right next door: Reading Terminal Market, which has loads of good, cheap food, especially Bassett's ice cream!
The Blog: Red Nose The Book: Girl Clown
Reading Terminal market is a definite
highlight
There's also great theater, jazz clubs, Penns Landing (which often has free music in the summer. It has a major airport, AMTRAK, and lots of regional commuter lines. Patti Labelle live in Philly! Definitely a contender!

One more thing about Philly, actually a few
more
It's a pleasant walk from the Convention Center to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, which boasts the Rodin Museum, the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Please Touch Museum for kids, the Franklin Institute (walk through the heart! See the flying machines!) Ben Franklin's free library, and the Philadelphia Art Museum, where "Rocky" ran the steps. Those steps are the departure point for Philly's annual race for the cure. You can also take a horse and carriage tour through Old Philadelphia -- the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross' house, Elfreth's Alley (a preserved colonial era neighborhood). Philly has a great zoo, as well.

Hotlanta
I live in the Nashville area and we have family in the Atlanta area. How convenient would it be for the conference to be in Atlanta!? Now...it IS in July and they don't call it Hotlanta for nothing. But, I think that's why God invented air conditioning! :)
EAST COAST!!
I would have voted for Washington, D.C. Since that wasn't an option, I chose the next closest -- Philly!!
Boston? Or really, anywhere on the East Coast
Come on. It's been on the West Coast. It's been in the Midwest. If it's not on the East Coast, it will be INFURIATING to the East Coast bloggers, truly. And I don't mean to slight the Atlantans among us, but ... eep, Atlanta in July? GRAH.
I'm mystified that Boston isn't on the list, only because it *is* a techy hip-type hub on the east coast AND it's cheaper than NYC. And it's beautiful! I know I'm biased, as I live in New England, but really, the weather in July is lovely, and it would be a great choice. I ALSO recognize, however, that there aren't a lot of conference-y type hotels in the city proper (ergo the reach-out tour in Burlington, which is not really very close), and I'm guessing that's why it never makes the list.
That being said, Philly is by far my first choice.
www.jonniker.com
Hitting Boston and DC this October...
Atlanta is the only '08 Tour stop that was included on the list only because it's more of a central hub than the East Coast cities
And you're right about Boston and big venues too.

Omaha
I voted for Omaha. Centrally located, major airport, lots of facilities, the Old Market is great and the Midwest is a lot less expensive than the coasts.
ATL, baby!
If the Olympics could make it here in the middle of the summer---so can Blogher! Plus, a little southern hospitality to boot!

Who voted for the West Coast...Seattle, baby. ;) Never been there. But clearly I'll go wherever...
Loving that we're getting several one-day events on this side of the country, & perhaps wouldn't mind being closer to home in July. So yeah, wherever. ;)

I voted my hometown, but
I realize that NYC is kinda pricey, so I won't be offended if it does not work out. But dude, we can do an Off the Beaten (Subway) Track excursion before or after the conference!
If not NYC, Philly seems like an excellent choice. Love that Amish Market! After that, anywhere east seems good to me.

New To Me
I would love to have it some place I haven't been - that lets out Vegas, New York, San Francisco and SoCal from this list. But they are like my favourite places! So I won't be complaining if BlogHer goes there. On the other hand, I will probably visit them anyway after the conference, so actually, yes I'm back to NOT wanting it there.
I don't think the weather is a HUGE deal - I mean, we're inside most of the time during the conference anyway. (Actually, you know what, the weather DOES have to be hotter than SF.)
Definitely would want to have it in a place where the conference and hotel rooms were in the same building.
And, actually, can we have it in Hawaii? That would be wayy cheaper for me to get to ;)
Where in the world?!
I have to point out that I don't think that you actually mean where in the world, but where in the United States! Would you ever consider some place like London or Paris or even Sydney?
