I'm hoping for a Kindle, but not a Kindle fire. As long as I have books on the Kindle, I should be pretty well occupied without needing everything else.

I'm thinking a Kindle Fire for Hubby to take to chemo. he's worried that some little old lady will get to the tv first and watch talk shows and soap operas. we can't afford any extras right now though.

Sorry, the first paragraph of my previous comment disappeared.

Dh got me an iPad as an early Christmas present because he found a really good deal on an open box one. We looked at the different tablets, but I really wanted the iPad for using Autocad Sketchpad, which lets you draw and paint by just moving your finger or a stylus across the screen. The other tablets had a delay that made trying to sketch incredibly aggravating because it took a second for the line to appear on the screen after you moved your hand. I have a neurological problem that causes my arms and hands to be too weak to do the sketching and painting that I love, but even on my worse days I can still use the iPad to draw.

PS--I still love my kindle because the electric ink is less straining on the eyes than the other screens. I have the cover with the built in booklight, and I can comfortably read in bed without disturbing my husband with a bright computer screen.

I also adore my Android smart phone. I share dh's plan on T Mobile, so it wasn't expensive, and I love all the features--like a GPS application for driving directions (ever go somewhere with your friends and are in a car that doesn't have a GPS? Not anymore!), a calendar that automatically updates and lets my husband and I see each other's schedule, a wireless hot spot, and access to the internet--great for looking up a company's store locations or telephone numbers, finding a place to eat/accessing online deals & coupons, and looking up movie showtimes/buying tickets when we decide to go see a movie since we're out anyway.

We also love having the iPad for the different applications that aren't available for non-apple tablets as well as keeping a small library of music on iTunes. The iPad is a lot easier to keep with me when I'm sitting around waiting for a doctor's appointment or when I'm in the hospital. --most hospitals have free wifi, and I love being able to watch a movie or listen to soothing music without having to keep up with several devices.

My husband also got a great deal on an Asus Transformer TF101 at Staples for around $350-$375. I really like it. Other than the art program issue, the Asus works just as well as the iPad.The Asus Transformer also has expandable memory, which most tablets don't have, including the iPad. Dh works for Cisco and is very computer savvy, and he loves his tablet. It's replaced his notepad for meetings and has really cut down on the paper clutter by having different apps for to do lists, calendars, contacts, etc.

There are some tablets that aren't as nice as the iPad or the particular model Asus that my husband bought--there are a lot of differences between Asus models, so beware. When we first got our tablets, dh took them to work so everyone could check them out. The consensus was the Asus is a great tablet and a good substitute for the iPad. My FIL bought my MIL an inexpensive tablet for her birthday, but she only uses a laptop for email and surfing the internet, so she wouldn't need a tablet with all the bells and whistles, although she is loving the ereader feature.

I have wanted an iPad since they came out but that is not going to happen until they do to the price what Amazon did to the Kindle. Until then I am so happy and addicted to my iPod Touch -- most used gift I have ever received.

I would like a good Android tablet. I'm trying hard not to buy one of the inexpensive stinky ones just to play with or discombooberate. Other than that I'm good for the year. I need a new computer but I'm so finicky that I need to buy it.

I put a Kindle on my wishlist. I'd love an iPad, but I'm holding out until they make one that can do everything my laptop can :)

If I have to buy it myself, then I want a Kindle Fire. If someone wants to buy something for me or the gadget fairy makes a magical appearance....iPad 2 of course! :)

I don't have any electronics on my wish list. I mean I wouldn't mind if someone gave me a MacBook Air but it's really not "on" the list.

sassymonkey 313 pts moderator

Denise Oh yes. I could use one of those. I spent most of this year wishing I had bought one because I did a lot more travel than I anticipated and my Mac Pro is heavy. But then... if we do as much travel next year as this year I am not going to be a happy camper anyway.

Denise 434 pts moderator

sassymonkey I think the next time I buy a laptop, it will have to be an Air. Except of course by then there will be something else better. Right?

sassymonkey 313 pts moderator

Denise More likely something cheaper. Which is part of the reason I didn't buy it this time.

Hi Jane! I voted for any new tablet computer this year, but I know I am not going to get it yet, lol! My hubby may get around to "surprising" me with one for our 30 years anniversary in February. I hope he gets the hint, hint, hint...! That with a bottle of Crystal and caviar would be very, very nice. *Smiling!*
